As the Maintenance Engineer located in Chicago Height, IL, the Maintenance Engineer is responsible for leading and assisting in the reliability, repairs, and optimization of the various pieces of equipment used in the chemical manufacturing and packaging processes at Nufarm under the supervision of the Maintenance and Reliability Engineer.

What will you be doing?

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Own and oversee the reliability and maintenance of assigned packaging and formulation equipment.
  • Lead and assist Maintenance Technicians to install, repair, and optimize the operation of packaging equipment such as liquid bottle fillers, bottle cappers, ink-jet coders, palletizers, case erectors, conveyors, and other packaging line equipment.
  • Work alongside the Maintenance Technicians to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve equipment problems across the site.
  • Implement and manage preventive maintenance tasks to prevent future failures and increase equipment reliability.
  • Help in ordering and overseeing the storage and use of equipment spare parts.
  • Manage small maintenance improvement projects such as upgrading equipment and processes, installing pumps, running new pipelines.
  • Observe process systems and equipment such as pumps, pipelines, reactors, compressors, generators, heat exchangers, filters, and agitators in operation.
  • Confer with operators to identify and analyze mechanical defects or malfunctions, utilizing knowledge of mechanical function and performance characteristics of equipment.
  • Contact and oversee various maintenance contractor projects and repairs.
  • Use a Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to record work orders and implement preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Lead root cause analysis on failed equipment and/or repeated equipment issues.

What do you bring?

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1-5 years of experience in a Maintenance/Chemical or equivalent Engineering role.
  • Leadership: provide guidance to maintenance and/or operations team while taking ownership of equipment and process outcomes.
  • Prioritization skills: Prioritize and plan work activities; Use time efficiently.
  • Reasoning ability: effectively communicate problems and solutions to team members both orally and in writing, and maintain interpersonal relationships is essential. Must possess ability to effectively manage several projects with various deadlines, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines while working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Problem solving: a keen ability to apply critical thinking to solve problems and troubleshoot equipment and process failures is essential.
  • Adaptability & Change management: effectively deal with and handle change and uncertainty. Adapt easily and quickly to a changing environment without losing effectiveness.
  • Personal development: listen well and reflect on feedback; be courageous to provide feedback; be aware of personal strengths and weaknesses; take continuous action to improve personal capabilities. Have a growth mindset.
  • General skills: requires a self-starting/high initiative, inquisitive questioning nature, analytical, detailed, and organized individual with a considerable degree of good judgment, excellent written and oral communication, self-confidence, and the ability to conduct activities without supervision.

Desired qualifications:

  • Proficiency in leading and facilitating root cause analysis
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites
  • Knowledge in general environmental, health and safety and process safety standards
  • Previous Maintenance Engineer or Reliability Engineer experiences in the chemical industry
  • Experiences with Limble CMMS Maintenance software
