Based in Chicago Heights, IL Nufarm is looking to engage a motivated Process Automation/Control Engineer to work closely with the Formulations, Packaging, Process Safety Managers to ensure Safety, Quality and Productivity targets are achieved. The position will develop to be the process owner and subject matter expert for assigned areas around automation and PLC operation/programming

What will you be doing?

  • Lead by example on safety programs and policies
  • Apply plant and Process Control knowledge and experience to optimize plant operation and maintain Process Control related Operating Discipline.
  • Identify deficiencies and value creating opportunities to plant control code and operator interface, leveraging best practices and applying Statistical Process Control (SPC) techniques.
  • Initiate, manage and close MOC actions relate to process control.
  • Utilize troubleshooting techniques to identify the root cause of problem areas in advanced control & Optimization and Manufacturing Execution Systems software suite.
  • Ensure reliable, optimized plant operation by successfully managing and implementing Process Control related changes, utilizing process control disciplines and requirements.
  • Utilize troubleshooting techniques to identify root cause of problem areas in Process Control code, Operator Interface or hardware and effectively resolve these problems with stakeholders’ input (resolution of exception reports, elements in manual, and reduction of alarms / unplanned events)
  • Ensure Process Control Operating Discipline is maintained and updated in the Process Control Strategy Description and code
  • Works with the SPC Implementation role to ensure process control changes are aligned with plant SPC strategy
  • Utilize available techniques and tools such as SPC for optimizing plant Process Control system and reduction / prevention of unplanned events
  • Utilize existing or develop Process Control and plant performance indicators and monitor effectiveness of plant operation and the Process Control system
  • Perform program code loads utilizing defined procedures for both simulation and production environments
  • Perform training and coaching for changes as required and assist in training efforts requested by Plant Operations
  • Coordinate Process Information system maintenance with Process Information and Information Services support groups
  • Coordinate Process Control system maintenance with Process Control field support group and conduct audits for HSE and Process Control standards compliance
  • Provide training and coaching for the plant engineer and panel operators
  • Work closely to the Regional Process Safety Manager to conduct PHA, ensure that all PSM-OSHA requirements are met and improve Nufarm PSM scorecards related to process control
  • Support capex projects in the scope definition, construction, code/procedure writing/ implementation, training of plant personnel and release to operation.
  • Certified Apollo root cause process, lead investigation and ensure actions are closed in assigned areas of responsibilities. Implement sustainable corrective solutions for management systems breakdowns associated with identified root causes.

What do you bring?

Nufarm is looking for a Process Automation/Control Engineer with zero to five years of manufacturing/process/quality engineering experience along with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent experience. Experience with process control / process automation programming and troubleshooting. The ideal candidate will be able to identify root cause and corrective actions and implement process improvements.
