About the Role:
Over the past year, we’ve launched our product, grown sales, and hit critical milestones indicating strong product market fit. This year, we plan to grow our team substantially to scale our core product and build out entirely new feature areas. We plan to double our team in the next few months alone; we’ll channel our efforts towards launching floor plan and mapping features, powerful reporting, and other exciting product frontiers. Cameras are only a small piece of the Connected Sites equation - we know everything from the badge readers, heavy duty equipment, or even just the forms and reports that our customers use everyday are critical to us delivering the most value across our mission statement: safety, efficiency, and sustainability.
This is a unique opportunity to join a small team and have a large impact across different sides of the business as it grows quickly to meet customer demand. As an early engineer on the team, you will have a massive impact on our product’s success.
In this role, you will be building:
- Dynamic floor plan mapping features, including drag-and-drop camera positioning, motion heat mapping, and eventually object tracking.
- Reporting and search features to explore live and historical video data and events.
- An interactive motion detection thresholding system that helps users explore and intuitively tune their system’s motion sensitivity (in collaboration with our computer vision team).
- Seamless camera discovery and remote camera configuration workflows (in collaboration with our firmware team).
An ideal candidate:
- Has 4+ years of relevant industry experience in software development
- Enjoys understanding our users and owning features that improve their workflows and day-to-day operations
- Is experienced in shipping high-quality features to users
- Enjoys working collaboratively with developers of different focuses (infra, firmware, vision, etc)
- Has experience working with React or Typescript
- We use Golang for our backend, Typescript and React for our web client, GraphQL to fetch data from our backend, and React Native for our mobile app. Direct experience with these technologies is not required.
At Samsara, we welcome all. All sizes, colors, cultures, sexes, beliefs, religions, ages, people. We depend on the unique approaches of our team members to help us solve complex problems. We are committed to increasing diversity across our team and ensuring that Samsara is a place where people from all backgrounds can make an impact.

Regarding COVID-19
Samsara's offices are beginning to reopen for voluntary return. Reopening timelines will be communicated by region based on region-specific guidelines. Phase 3 ('New Normal') will begin no earlier than January 2022. Our primary concern is for the health and well-being of our employees as well as candidates. We have transitioned all interviews and onboarding to be conducted virtually via Zoom video conferencing. Employees are able to work from countries and states where Samsara is a registered entity through December 2021. All employees are expected to return to our offices when they reopen with the exception of field-based and fully remote roles.
