Position Summary:
The Medical business is seeking a Product Line Controller for its Devices product line. The Devices product line portfolio is worth in excess of $250M, incorporating therapies and products generating significant margin expansion while growing double digits. This is a global role that requires strong analytical competence coupled with genuine leadership ability.
As Controller, you will partner with the Devices Product Leader (based in Minneapolis, MN) with responsibility for all aspects of the global product portfolio, including strategic and business planning, pricing, NPI project portfolio management, gaining cross functional alignment and driving execution of the business plan to achieve financial targets. You will be responsible for providing financial and analytical support to recommend investment decisions, portfolio adjustments and to manage operating expenses. In this role the Controller will work closely with the Medical Leadership team encompassing CEO, CFO, Project Management, Engineering, S&OP, Commercial and Operations.
The successful candidate must be a strong and trusted business partner, achieve results through influence and maintain good working relationships across multiple time zones and cultures. Key to success will be your ability to prioritize actions which generate bottom line impact, distill large volumes of data from multiple sources (both automated and manual), and multi-task on different priorities and thrive under pressure. This role reports to the Director of Finance (based in Ireland) and has one direct report, a Senior Analyst (based in Portugal). This role offers potential to progress in the organization and will be supported by internal development opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Strong and trusted Finance business partner for the Devices Product Leader and ability to develop strong working relationships; delivering business case presentations to Leadership including CEO and CFO on a regular basis
- Work with the Devices Product Leader to develop, evaluate and execute long-term strategic financial objectives in line with the overall business strategy including producing 5-year financial strategic plan
- Direct and manage the annual budget / quarterly forecast processes for Devices including delivery of detailed plans and identification of key drivers / assumptions and key performance indicators
- Deliver consensus forecast from monthly S&OP demand and supply outputs through financial reconciliation; analyse and model backlog, billings and SMI% by customer, product family, region, market, etc.
- Drive accountability by keeping Management team informed of actions which need to be executed to achieve financial targets and KPIs
- Analyse portfolio to identify price and margin opportunities to improve customer and global product line profitability
- Make investment recommendations related to prioritisation of program transfers based on rate of return
- Voting member of the Project Advisory Council (PAC); preparation/review of project P&Ls
- Prepare month end financial reporting for the product line
- Finance leader for Irish R&D tax credit claim ensuring that all amounts are properly substantiated and able to withstand Revenue audit
- Coach & develop talent across the Global Medical finance team
- Drive the continuous development and enhancement of systems, processes and procedures to improve analysis, reporting and decision-support, supporting standardization across the Medical business
- Assist with ad hoc strategic (M&A etc.) and operational projects as required
What your background should look like:
- Qualified Accountant ACA, ACCA or CIMA, preferably Big 4 trained
- Bachelor’s degree Business or Finance-related field with 5+ years of work experience
- Demonstrate a track record of collaborating with business leaders in a complex multinational business environment.
- Show evidence of ability to influence and negotiate with key decision makers.
- Evidence of building & developing a team; encouraging direct conversations, coaching & empowering a team.
- Extensive and exceptional Excel skills with demonstrated data analytics
- Experience with TE data sources preferred (TED2.0, SAP Projects, Hyperion)
- Able to picture and communicate “simple” solutions to complex business scenarios involving multiple systems and accounting disciplines across multiple regions
- Strong communication skills (oral and written) with an ability to articulate complex business issues in a clear/concise manner to multiple levels of stakeholders across multiple geographical locations
- Open to change and be able to effectively respond to new information, different or unexpected circumstances, and/or to work in ambiguous situations
- Team player with a particularly strong work ethic, positive attitude, humility and a focus on business impact
