Job Overview

The Advanced Platform Development team in Harrisburg, PA provides the research and new product development capabilities for TE Connectivity’s Industrial business unit. This group focuses on developing next generation product ideas in the embedded electronics and smart connectivity space, proving these concepts through circuit design and prototyping, and transferring these prototypes into the BU’s New Product Development pipeline for bringing to market.

The APD group is a concept-driven prototyping and platform development environment. Novel ideas are encouraged and brought to fruition within the Advanced Development framework, and significant latitude and many avenues of exploration into a concept or idea are available. An engineer in the APD team must be able to conceive, plan, and execute projects across a variety of mechanical, electrical, and electronic engineering disciplines.

The APD 2023 electrical engineering intern can expect to make tangible, consequential, and non-trivial engineering contributions to the advancement of new and ongoing platform development projects in the areas of harsh environment servomotor control, next generation intelligent lighting applications, and factory floor devices.

What You'll Be Doing....

  • Electrical embedded hardware design
    • Schematic capture and update using Altium ECAD
    • Circuit improvement conception and implementation
    • PCB layout and prototype fabrication
    • Circuit design, testing, debug, and characterization
  • Hands-on electronics prototyping
    • Generate manufacturing outputs required for external PCB fabrication.
    • Assisting engineers with prototype builds (PCB / SMT soldering and testing)
  • Device performance characterization
    • Development and implementation of novel test procedures to ensure alignment of concept prototype performance with system requirements

What your background should look like:

  • High level of initiative and drive toward exploration, creation, and learning.
  • Must demonstrate openness in communication, willingness to ask questions, and ability to discuss technically complex material with engineering colleagues, including presentation of development progress and findings.
  • Strong ethics, integrity, and reliability are required.
  • Competent with surface mount soldering and electronic assembly
  • Familiarity with lab prototyping equipment: Oscilloscope, DMM, power supplies, x-ray inspection, laser cutter, etc.
  • Digital / analog electronics exposure, circuit theory competence
  • Working knowledge of ECAD (especially Altium Designer)
  • Schematic design experience
  • Basic competency in embedded programming (C/C++)
  • Experience with data processing and analysis (MATLAB, Excel)
  • Electronics testing and verification

Compensation
Competitive pay commensurate with experience: $18 to $35 per hour (subject to change dependent on physical location)
Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. TE Connectivity reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the experience/qualification of the selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.
