Job Overview

TE Connectivity’s R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams conceive original ideas for new products, introduce them into practice. They are responsible for product development, and qualification from market definition through production and release; assist in the qualification of suppliers for new products to ensure suppliers deliver quality parts, materials, and services for new or improved manufacturing processes; conduct feasibility studies, testing on new and modified designs; direct and support detailed design, testing, prototype fabrication and manufacturing ramp. The R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams provide all required product documentation including, but not limited to, Solid Model, 2D/3D production drawings, product specifications, and testing requirements. They create and modify detailed drawings and drafting or conceptual models from layouts, rough sketches or notes and contribute to design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product. Typical fields of expertise include: materials, mechanics and systems, electrical, optics, chemistry, software, automation systems, packaging, testing and measurement, and manufacturing of electrical, mechanical and electronic components, products, and their integration into systems.

The Senior Manager R&D Product Development for the Metals Business Unit (PBU) provides regional leadership, strategic direction, project guidance, and support to the Metals Product Development Teams in North America.
This leadership role has primary responsibility for the R&D teams our in Medway MA, Plymouth MSP, and Wilsonville, OR sites. Key responsibilities include ensuring NPI Launch on time, Launch on cost metrics, driving speed through our Lean PD process and ensuring compliance to our Global QMS.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide leadership and manage the complete product development life cycle (starting from voice of customer, ideation, Design Conceptualization, Creation of product specifications, 3D design, Prototyping, Product qualification, Project Execution & some Sustenance until product end of life)
  • Execute the global business unit strategy and manage the North American based engineering group to meet business unit goals and objectives. Build a deep understanding of market and customer needs by fostering a connection between the business engineering teams and the customer engineering teams
  • Partner with customers based on early engagement process and provide necessary design / process solutions to maintain TE’s position as a global leader in medical device manufacturing
  • Introduce breakthrough technologies by partnering technically with our customers worldwide, our Advance, Technology Group and TE Global competency centers to enhance business revenue & growth. Apply engineering best- practice to reduce cost and sustain exiting products to meet customer’s cost targets.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to develop the necessary training modules to educate our engineering team. Oversee headcount planning, recruitment, rotation, development and succession of the employees.
  • Partner with other TE PBU Engineering Leaders in transferring activities, equipment, products, and know-how to the other engineering teams.
  • In conjunction with PLM / PMO leaders develop annual budgets for headcount, costs, material, tooling, training, and travel. Accountable for monthly budget attainment.
  • Partner with PLM/PMO/Finance/Operations to ensure timely product launch on cost and margin.

What your background should look like:

EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE

  • BS (Electronic, Mechanical)
  • MS (Mechanical/Electrical) (preferred)
  • Knowledge about various phases of product realization and product development
  • Knowledge of state-of-the-art design tools such as 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD), modelling, Geometric Dimension & Tolerancing (GD&T), electrical & electronic design
  • Knowledge of DFM, PFMEA, CAPA, GDP, GMP and ISO 13485: 2016 and Simulation

CRITICAL EXPERIENCE

  • 10+ years of experience with a minimum of 5 in the Medical Device industry related to new product development ideally Metal components
  • Extensive multi-plant working experience to leverage partnering with TE competency centers and using TE processes to bring Medical Device capability
  • Experience managing a working environment conforming to Global Medical Device Regulations such as ISO 13485 2016.
  • Experience in design for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA), design for cost (DFC)
  • Previous experience building and sustaining high-performing multi-disciplinary engineering teams

COMPENSATION

  • Competitive base salary commensurate with experience: $156,560k - 234,840k annually (subject to change dependent on physical location)
  • Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. TE Connectivity reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the experience/qualification of the selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.
  • Total Compensation = Base Salary + Incentive(s) + Benefits
