Job Overview
TE Connectivity is looking for an experienced and dynamic Engineering leader to join its Transportation Sensors Engineering Americas Organization as R&D/Product Dvl Engineering Manager II for the Winston Salem Sensors Development Team, plus 1 remote team out of Hampton and Mexico City sites. This position reports directly to the North America Regional Transportation Sensors Engineering Leader.
This position will lead and be responsible for a cross functional team of sensors product development engineers that will drive project execution and deployment of platforms and technology that will enhance the product portfolio to serve the Automotive and Industrial & Commercial Transportation (ICT) markets. This leader will build and lead a high-performing team of engineers that will engage with Global and Platform Engineering Teams in various Centers of Expertise all around the world. The role will require extensive interaction with engineering leaders, product managers, project managers, customers, and supply partners.
He/She will drive engineering excellence by institutionalizing DFSS methodologies, a structured and systematic approach, and Lean Product Development principles such as Front Loading, Risk Detection & Countermeasures and Set Based Concurrent Engineering, all to ensure programs meet technical, performance & product cost requirements are completed on time and within the project budget, plus meeting commitments and “First Time Right”! Major focus will be placed on Project Execution Excellence including Phase Gate Compliance, Project Execution Cycle Time Reduction and maximizing Engineering Efficiency and Productivity.
The ideal candidate would be a highly experienced Engineering Manager with exceptional knowledge of sensors and sensing technologies, with vast experience developing and successfully launching products into the automotive and/or transportation industries.
Job Responsibilities
Execute the vision and strategy of Transportation Sensors Engineering organization through definition and implementation of operational plans with measurable impact in alignment with strategic business objectives
Partner with NA AUTO functional groups and Platform Development Teams to support product development and drive significant business growth for Speed Sensors, Linear Position Sensors and Level Sensing product portfolios.
Leverage a structured new product development process and stage gate frameworks to lead project activities from initial research & development throughout the entire project development lifecycle either New Product Introduction and/or Advanced Development Projects:
Support and enable Requirements Management and Assessment process
Customize product for local market
Concept definition
Sample build plans and Validation Testing (DV & PV)
PPAP & release for local customer
Provide training, coaching, and mentoring to team members creating a team mindset and culture that is aligned with TE core values.
Closely work with global center of excellences and process development teams to drive growth in the region and develop truly differentiated solutions and ensure flawless launches.
Drive engineering efficiency, functional excellence, and productivity initiatives.
Manage the approved engineering budget and monitor actual expenses to ensure budget compliance.
Drive innovation and Intellectual Property growth to protect existing and future business
Drive a DFSS culture, one of innovation and continuous improvement.
Proactively communicate escalations around challenges, gaps, support required and resource needs to quickly address issues before they impede successful delivery of key programs
Understand, track and articulate issues / risks / action items; work with responsible owners to address the items on a timely basis; update the appropriate stakeholders as needed
Continuous risk assessment and problem resolution; apply change management, risk management and resource management best practices
Lead and promote TE values & behaviors through Inclusion & Diversity mindset.
What your background should look like:
Bachelor's Degree in technical discipline (Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Material Science, Physics)
At least 10 years combined product development engineering experience.
Proven success in Engineering leadership in a multicultural environment and proven people leader with minimum 7 years in combined direct reporting or matrix reporting leadership.
Solid experience of new product development and introduction into the Automotive industry. Experience should include full lifecycle developments; all aspects from initial research & development, spec development, concept development, design, testing & validation, qualification and production release of Transportation products.
Strong business acumen relative to project business case development and market analysis, capital management, P&L, and budget management
Excellent written, verbal and presentation communication skills; Exceptional fluency in English
Ability to interact professionally with customers, sales, leadership, stakeholders, cross functional teams and internal and external technical and subject matter experts
Global mind-set - experience in a large multinational with demonstrated ability to work in a fasted paced, dynamic global environment interacting with product development teams in a cross-functional, multi-site environment to deliver projects with numerous dependencies and constraints.
Ability to lead engineering excellence in the framework of a PMO driven, projectized environment. Able to attract and motivate top technical talent and skilled in people development.
Strong Design for Six Sigma methodology; DFSS, or Six Sigma Green Belt Certified
Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills and ability to make decisions when presented with a series of challenges, conflicts and constraints
Ability to drive to big picture goals and milestones while valuing and maintaining strong attention to the details
Willingness to travel as required, up to ~10%-25%
