Position Overview
Direct and provide high level technical support for manufacturing of advanced ceramics, including powder synthesis, part fabrication, and finishing activities. Lead and support product launch activities and process changes. Analyze, troubleshoot, and provide solutions to complex process problems through continuous improvement and lean manufacturing methodologies. Coordinate the integration of material processing equipment to ensure a safe and cost-effective manufacturing process.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee and support high volume manufacturing of ceramic parts
- Execute engineering projects to improve quality, yields, and cost, with 60-80% hands-on involvement.
- Provide direction regarding company policies and enforce safety regulations.
- Support in the development of department budgets & supervisory control over expenditures
- Support all technical related continuous improvement projects through Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing events designed to optimize process efficiency, reducing costs and lead-time.
- Direct the departmental technical staff towards excellence in Engineering.
- Coordinate process development from launch into production release. Perform FMEA’s.
- Establish strategic goals for engineering team as it relates to financial, quality, market, and operational trends.
- Drive new technology introduction.
- Develop training in the fields of automation, processing, visual inspection, and other secondary operations.
- Troubleshoot manufacturing/production issues with the ultimate aim of improving customer satisfaction.
Participate in developing and implementing Operational Procedures for Engineering.
Skills and Experience
Required:
- BS or MS degree in materials science, ceramic engineering, or a related field.
- 7-10 years of relevant process engineering experience.
- Previous experience in an engineering leadership role.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with teammates.
- Excellent organizational, communication, analytical, and leadership skills.
- Solid understanding of project management methodology.
Highly Desirable:
- Expertise in powder synthesis and uniaxial pressing.
- Experience with superabrasive grinding.
- MS Office experience (Access and Visual Basic).
- Equipment automation experience.
- Lean background and experience…Kaizen, Poke-Yoke, 5S, Kan Ban, Plant Layout, etc.
- Experience with capital equipment procurement.
