The Commonwealth Serum Laboratories was established in Australia in 1916 to service the health needs of a nation isolated by war. Over the ensuing years CSL provided Australians with rapid access to 20th century medical advances including insulin and penicillin, and vaccines against influenza, polio and other infectious diseases. CSL Limited was incorporated in 1991 and listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) in 1994.

Today CSL has grown to be one of the world’s top three biotech companies globally and a leader on the ASX, with a market capitalisation of over $140 billion. We operate in over 35 countries, employing 25,000 people to bring lifesaving medicines to people in nearly 70 countries. Our growth can be attributed to a number of factors, including strong execution of our strategy and significant investments in our R&D portfolio, with CSL building a strong pipeline of new products to address the unmet needs of patients with rare and serious diseases.

In 2019, CSL was recognised for the second year running by Forbes as a Best Employer for Diversity. In 2018, Forbes also ranked CSL among the top 50 employers on its Global 2000 survey and Thomson Reuters included CSL in its top 100 global Diversity and Inclusion Index.
