About the role
AGL is undergoing one of the most significant transitions in the Australian energy sector, and we’re looking for a Strategy Manager to help shape what comes next. As part of the Corporate Strategy team, the Strategy Manager will play a pivotal role in defining the pathways that will guide AGL through a rapidly evolving energy landscape. Reporting directly to the Head of Strategy, you'll work at the heart of the organisation — partnering with senior leaders, influencing major decisions, and driving strategic clarity across the business.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record in strategy development, building trusting relationships with senior leaders, leading cross-functional projects and collaborating effectively at all levels to turn strategy into action.
What you'll be doing:
You’ll take ownership of high‑impact strategic work that informs AGL’s long‑term direction and supports enterprise‑wide decision‑making, including:
Developing deep market intelligence to assess industry shifts, competitive dynamics, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies
Identifying, evaluating, and shaping potential growth pathways for AGL across existing and new markets
Building and assessing strategic scenarios to support long‑term planning and enterprise decision‑making
Planning and managing the internal and external processes for developing and reporting against corporate strategy
Leading high‑impact strategic projects from framing through to recommendation, working cross‑functionally with teams across the business
Preparing insights, recommendations, and strategic narratives for executive and board‑level audiences
What we're looking for:
You’ll combine strong analytical capability with strategic and commercial acumen, and the ability to influence at all levels.
Experience gained in corporate strategy, management consulting, investment banking, or a related analytical field
A master’s degree in business, economics, finance or a related field
Strong strategic problem‑solving skills complemented by the ability to translate complex information into clear insights and compelling recommendations
Demonstrated experience in market analysis, scenario development, market sizing, opportunity assessment and financial modelling
Experience leading cross‑functional initiatives and influencing stakeholders at all levels
Curiosity, commercial acumen, and a passion for shaping the future of energy in Australia
Exposure to the energy sector highly regarded
