The Project
As an industry leader in lithium and lithium derivatives, one of the highest growth markets in the specialty chemicals industry, Albemarle is currently constructing a lithium processing Plant within the Kemerton Strategic Industrial Area located close to the regional Western Australian City of Bunbury.
The Plant will process ore from the Talison Mining operation at Greenbushes to produce lithium hydroxide.
The Role
Reporting to the KEP Construction Director and supporting the Project Managers as part of the Project Delivery Team, this newly created role of Construction Manager – Front End is accountable and responsible for all construction related scope and activities within their assigned K3/K4 Kemerton Expansion areas.
Travel is required therefore you will have the ability to spend nights away from home.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure adherence to Albemarle and Australian safety standards throughout project execution by all personnel and contractors who are involved with the construction execution.
- Take an active leadership role in developing a culture of SAFETY and respect across the project with the goal of zero harm
- Work collaboratively with the EPCM, Albemarle delivery / operations, and construction contractors to meet the schedule, quality, and cost objectives of the project.
- Administration of site contracts to ensure compliance with the contract agreement, scope of work, specifications, quality, progress and manning levels.
- Participate in value engineering, safety in design and constructability reviews
- Review Project and procurement schedules to ensure that field deliverables support the construction schedule
- Provide input to Project Managers to develop or review final project schedule
- Monitor, control, and report on construction execution
- Ensure that construction milestones are met and change management / mitigation is followed
- Monitor construction resources and report variances in the programed resources available to accomplish timely completion of project milestones
- Review all construction related purchase bid tabs and recommend award of all purchase orders and contracts
- Provide construction input to the monthly status report, as appropriate
- Coordinate with Project Engineering to resolve design conflicts, ensure that all field construction documentation is complete, accurate, and meets Plant requirements
- Liaison with the Contractor Construction Manager to ensure progress and priorities are in line with project schedules
- Coordinate with Project Financial Controls Organizations to identify cost variances and schedule impacts
- Ensure preparation of and adherence to the construction execution plan and the contractor’s works are as per the project quality plan
- Conducting weekly site meetings with the contractor
- Maintain a detailed daily diary recording all matters pertaining to the contract, including instructions given, the days work areas, manning levels, equipment in use, problem areas, safety issues, industrial relations issues
- Administration of the commercial aspects of the contract agreement, including the issuing of site instructions and month progress certificates after approval by the Project Manager
- Monitoring the delivery and supply of all free issue materials to the contractor
- Witnessing and recording of all pre-commissioning and commissioning test data
- Recording of all “as built” information in accordance with the requirements of the Contract
- Assist with preparation of the Project Close Out Report, including Lessons Learned
Work Experience / Technical Skill Requirements
- A minimum of five years’ experience as Construction Manager within major projects in Australia and a minimum of 10+ years of experience in an on-site construction management role in process (refining, petrochemical, chemical) or mining industries
- Strong leadership skills within a construction environment
- Excellent organisational and time management skills
- Accomplished communication and effective interpersonal skills, verbal, written and presentation
- Adept strategic thinking and decision-making skills
- Experience with contracting methodologies, contract documents, contract management processes ideally within a multi-discipline construction environment
- Ability to prepare, issue and assess Dayworks and Site Instructions
- Ability to manage variations, assess extension of time and other claims
- Experience with undertaking risk reviews and being able to identify risk
- Sound knowledge of project sequencing and deliverables required during the planning, design and construction phases of a project
- Robust management of project schedule and cost / budgets
- Safety-first mindset and be able to ensure accountability of self and others.
Qualification Requirements
- Relevant qualifications or equivalent experience in Building, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying or other related discipline or Trade
