Are you looking for professional career development in a diverse and inclusive environment? Looking to get out of FIFO and achieve more of a work life balance in a hands-on role? This is a permanent opportunity for a suitably qualified Geotechnical Engineer, based at our Kwinana Refinery.
The role provides a geotechnical risk management function to Alcoa and manages and monitors the implementation of dam safety risk management practices in the design, construction, operation and closure of impoundments (tailings, liquor, water dams) in accordance with relevant professional codes and industry practices such as the International Council of Mining and Metals (ICMM) Tailings Governance Framework and the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM). This role has the focus of dam safety and is responsible for identifying risks, developing, implementing and managing controls adequate to prevent catastrophic failures of impoundments.
Our business is looking for a 'go getter' who will drive our safety culture and efficiency by improving and implementing safety standards. You will work and learn within the wider Impoundment group, reporting through to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer working Monday to Friday, with one leisure day every four-week period!
You will be a catalyst and have accountability for;
Ensuring engineering design and operation of residue storage facilities and ponds comply to Alcoa standards and statutory requirements,
Providing recommendations for residue capital and sustaining work plans, as well as technical engineering input to civil engineering activities and procedures,
Preparing project scopes to allow execution of the annual residue plan, as well as maintain construction project design guidelines and vital monitoring and QA to ensure compliance,
Assist the Senior Geotechnical Engineer in water management plans and strategies, factoring in short-term and long-term dam stability, and embankment raise design analysis,
Ensuring standard methodology processes are developed, shared and implemented across the wider team, whilst looking for opportunities to apply and implement the best available technologies
Other duties include helping sites tailings, performing auditing, reviewing technical docs, being part of incident investigations.
About you
To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:
Bachelor of Civil, Geotechnical, or Mining Engineering Degree, specialising in geotechnical engineering, with demonstrated experience in alumina or heavy industry considered desirable,
Ability to provide a consultative working environment of open communication, trust and confidence to deliver a flexible, professional and well-balanced technical support
Passion and commitment for upholding and promoting EH&S culture across the work environment and teams,
Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills coupled with customer focus to forge strong working relationships and alliances, and
Eye to implement change and innovation to support the achievement of cost reduction, productivity and improvement opportunities!
