About the job
An opportunity exists for a Mining Laboratory Analyst to join the team at Alcoa's Kwinana Refinery.
The Mining Laboratory Analyst completes routine and non-routine laboratory analysis of ore-development bauxite drill-hole samples plus the sorting and preparation of FTIR Calibration/Validation bauxite sample or as requested by the mining laboratory superintendent. This is a permanent role on 10.3 shift pattern and days as required. The role requires flexibility as you will be required to move between shift rotations.
Key activities as part of the role includes
Analyse routine and non-routine laboratory analysis of ore-development bauxite drill-hole samples.
Sorting and preparation of FTIR Calibration/Validation bauxite samples.
Repeat sampling and analysis for unusual results.
Identify potential problems with sample integrity related to the analytical process.
Enter data into the laboratory mining and refinery laboratory information systems
Verify data by comparing with historical performance trends and review the impact of results with stake-holders.
Monitor the quality of the external sample processing laboratories.
Communicating results to customers.
Troubleshooting on laboratory instruments.
Preparation of calibration standards.
About you
To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:
Laboratory Practices Certificate – TAFE Qualification
Knowledge & Training in the Bayer Process would be highly regarded
A validated understanding of the impact of the laboratory analysis results on the operations of the refinery.
Experience in analytical procedures such as Gas Chromatography, XRF analysis, TOC analysis and ICP analysis will be advantageous.
Experience in laboratory application automation would also be advantageous.
Demonstrated knowledge of LIMS and a variety of laboratory analytical equipment.
Good communication skills, an ability to work effectively as a team member, an excellent safety outlook and being flexible in working to the business needs are all required qualities.
