About the job

We seek innovation. We seek concept to turn into reality. We seek an individual to lead the development of new mining to refining process interface in partnership with the Refinery of the Future (ROF) process development team!

As the Mining to Refining Interface Manager, you are critical in providing the capability and expertise to develop this process, leading this pillar on new mine site processing schemes and enable residue free mineral processing. Leveraging current insights in these fields we seek opportunity to translate lessons learns from decades of conventional processes and systems to design new, improving both streams of the process.

This work will only be achieved through effective leadership of a high technical and capable team. You can expect to:

  • Develop new processes that can be used globally for all future refineries and retrofit to existing mine sites where feasible.

  • Design and build a high performing, multidisciplinary team that can deliver requirements across the work streams.

  • Create external support networks through R&D and Contractor services for work streams

  • Provide support to the Capital Intensity Team throughout the Program and building the ROF business cases

  • Support Program Governance internal to Program, and within Alcoa for audit requirements

You will work very closely with other technical pillar managers across the extraction, handling, processing and product delivery space, to design a new value chain with industry changing requirements!

There may be a requirement for international travel to support our global operations which may also require conference calls outside normal business hours to connect and collaborate with all locations.

About you

To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering / Geology, Mineral Processing or similar.

  • Master’s degree and/or MBA, relevant qualifications in specialist fields such as Project Management and Delivery or Construction.

  • Vast experience in the Mining Industry, preferably in many facets of large- scale bulk Mining Operations, Mine Engineering or Mine Planning or Geology.

  • Program/Portfolio Experience

  • Exposure in best practice mine engineering, mine planning, geology, continuous improvement, and project management.

  • Wide organisational experience for large corporations and understand the dynamics of running large cross-company initiatives.

  • Significant experience in a leadership role, with evidence of coaching and mentoring.

  • Strong problem solving, lateral “think global - act local” thinking, with a track record to take ownership of the work.

  • Effective communication, and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary and diverse teams.

  • Adaptability, in a way of changing orientation when necessary and effective time and priority management.

Our Global Refining Locations
Alcoa operates six refineries in Australia, Brazil and Spain. In Western Australia, our three-refinery operations are the world's biggest single source of alumina and able to supply eight percent of the global market. Alcoa also has a 25% share in the refinery that is part of our Ma’aden joint venture in Saudi Arabia.
