About the job
The Senior Communications Advisor develops and implements internal and external communications to enhance and protect Alcoa’s reputation and social licence. This includes issue and crisis management, media relations, external stakeholder communications, internal communications, brand, and events.The incumbent reports to the Australian Communications Manager and works closely with the Australian and Global communications teams as well as key Australia leaders and functions.
An exciting opportunity to apply your strategic communications expertise as part of our Corporate Affairs team, contributing to a range of initiatives and helping create a compelling narrative to support our position as an industry leader across our Australian operations.
In this role reporting to our Australian Corporate Affairs Manager, you will focus primarily on:
- Issue & Crisis Management: Developing and implementing proactive and reactive communication strategies particularly in relation to operational and environmental performance, sustainability, and community interface.
- Media Relations: Building and maintaining meaningful stakeholder relationships and producing key communication tools including media releases, media responses, talking points and social media posts.
To be successful, you will have extensive media and issue management skills and experience along with exceptional verbal and written communications skills that allow you to successfully convey complex matters to a range of stakeholders.
You will also assist the Corporate Affairs team across the broader functional accountabilities including:
- External Stakeholder Communications: Deliver best practice external communications including maintaining our website, creating briefing notes, speeches, and presentations.
- Internal Communications: Deliver best practice internal communications including maintaining our intranet and creating toolbox talks and newsletters.
- Branding & Events: Assist with implementing our brand standards and delivering events across our business and host communities.
About you
To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:
- Tertiary qualifications in media/journalism, public relations, communications, and/or related fields.
- Extensive experience in media, communications, corporate affairs, and/or related fields.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Planning and project management skills would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of the resources sector and Alcoa’s geographical and socio-political setting in WA would be desirable.
- Current WA Drivers Licence
- Flexibility to travel in Western Australia and work outside normal office hours to collaborate with global stakeholders.
