About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified Human Factors Consultant to work across our WA locations to drive improvements in employee health, wellbeing and injury prevention as part of the regional health & safety team.

Reporting through to the Human Factors Lead, your specialised knowledge and expertise will cover a large scope including the prevention and management of musculoskeletal injury, principles of Good Work Design and management of psychosocial hazards in the workplace. In this role, your key activities will be:

  • Facilitation of the Human Factors program, including working with Alcoa WA locations to integrate key strategies into the business plan.

  • Overseeing and conducting ergonomic assessments and providing recommendations for risk reduction.

  • Providing technical advice regarding ergonomic and design principles to optimise and reduce injury risk. This includes design and purchasing of new plant and equipment, and job/task redesign.

  • Assisting with injury investigations to identify causative and contributing factors and providing advice on corrective actions.

  • Providing guidance on the prevention and management of psychosocial hazards in the workplace, including work redesign.

  • Coaching and providing education on injury prevention and principles of Good Work Design.

What you can bring to the role:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Ergonomics, Organisation Psychology, Physiotherapy, OT, Exercise Science, or related field, with completion of or progression towards post graduate qualification in a related field well regarded.

  • Being eligible for registration with the appropriate professional body (AHPRA, ESSA, HFESA).

  • Demonstrated experience within an industrial, manufacturing or mining environment.

  • Sound understanding of the principles in the design of work, Human System Interaction and General Human Factors approach and concepts.

  • Strong communication, influencing and project management skills in order to oversee the implementation of projects and solutions.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan, develop, coordinate, implement and evaluate services within a defined area of practice.

  • Knowledge of risk management principles and ability to assess and identify hazards and apply risk mitigation controls.
