About the Role:

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Process Control Engineer to join the Process Control team at our Kwinana Refinery. That team is responsible for developing, maintaining and supporting the control system from instrumentation through to information systems across the refinery.

With an extensive control system based on a Honeywell DCS, this role will be involved in all aspects of the control system. This includes basic control, advanced regulatory control and up to multivariable process control systems.

Reporting to the Senior Process Control Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining the software and providing troubleshooting and training assistance to production and technical personnel. The Process Control Engineer has a shared responsibility to grow and support the rest of the site control and information application teams and will have the opportunity to cover the Senior Engineer responsibilities for leave and other times.

In addition to supporting existing control schemes, you will be involved in project work that varies from small local requests to large scale capital projects which can involve multi disciplines and external resources.

The local site team is part of the wider Alcoa control team, which provides the opportunity to interact with a broad range of expertise allowing for knowledge sharing and best practice transfer to and from refineries across Australia and around the world.

What you can bring to the role:

To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:

  • An Electrical/Process Control/Chemical Engineering degree

  • Experience in delivery of process control services in alumina refining or other relevant heavy industry.

  • Demonstrated a high level of influencing and negotiation skills across all levels of an organisation and have the ability to think and execute innovatively.

  • Ability to take a problem statement and transfer this into a well-designed control scheme to meet the customer and plant requirements.

  • High level of competence in technical computing, and a broad familiarity with software development protocols.

The following attributes will be highly regarded:

  • Advanced process control experience (multivariable control systems)

  • Experience in developing HMI interfaces for process control systems.

  • Honeywell DCS experience

  • Alumina refinery experience
