AEMO at the Heart of Energy
AEMO is Australia’s independent energy system and market operator and system planner. AEMO’s purpose is to ensure safe, reliable and affordable energy today, and enable the energy transition for the benefit of all Australians. Australian governments are now committed to a net zero economy for Australia by 2050 and our vision is to enable this. We have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to co-design the future of our energy systems, and our core values revolve around character, commitment, and connection. Join us as we contribute to this significant transition in the energy sector.
About the role
Are you passionate about improving the way organisations work and turning complex processes into practical, better ways of working?
As Lead – Process Excellence, you’ll play a key role in building AEMO’s process excellence capability, working closely with teams across the organisation to understand how work gets done today, identify pain points and turn improvement opportunities into practical change.
This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll be actively facilitating workshops, mapping and analysing processes, designing future-state solutions and establishing the frameworks that will underpin process excellence across AEMO. You’ll also lead a small team of two, while remaining closely involved in the work yourself.
With plenty of opportunity to shape how the function evolves, this role is ideal for someone who enjoys rolling up their sleeves, building strong stakeholder relationships and seeing improvements move from ideas into action.
What you’ll be doing
- Facilitate workshops with stakeholders to map current-state processes, uncover pain points and design practical future-state solutions.
- Establish and embed AEMO’s Process Excellence framework, methodology and governance, helping build capability in a developing environment.
- Lead process mapping, analysis and redesign initiatives that simplify ways of working, improve efficiency and create better stakeholder experiences.
- Build and prioritise a pipeline of improvement opportunities, balancing quick wins with medium and longer-term initiatives that demonstrate measurable value.
- Partner closely with business leaders and teams to understand process maturity, clarify process ownership and embed sustainable improvements.
- Lead and support a small Process Excellence team while remaining actively involved in delivery.
What you’ll bring
- Strong hands-on experience in process excellence, continuous improvement, business improvement or operational excellence within a complex organisation.
- Demonstrated experience facilitating workshops and translating stakeholder input and business challenges into clear, practical process improvements.
- Strong capability across process mapping, process analysis, process redesign and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience establishing or working within process excellence frameworks, including process ownership, governance and prioritisation.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships and bring people with you through change.
- Experience leading, coaching or guiding others while continuing to work directly on process improvement initiatives.
Experience within banking and financial services, insurance, superannuation, telecommunications/infrastructure, government, utilities or another regulated environment would be highly regarded.
