About the role
The Internal Audit team within Finance & Governance provides independent and objective assurance, advice and insights to support effective governance, risk management and internal controls across AEMO. Through a risk-based approach, the team helps strengthen organisational performance and supports the achievement of AEMO's strategic objectives.
We are seeking a motivated Internal Auditor to support the delivery of AEMO's risk-based internal audit program. In this role, you will conduct audits, develop and execute testing strategies, prepare audit documentation, and provide insights to improve business processes and controls. Working closely with stakeholders across the organisation, you will help identify emerging risks, support continuous improvement, and contribute to maintaining a strong control environment. The role offers an opportunity to apply your audit and analytical skills in a complex and evolving energy sector environment.
What you will be doing
- Support the development and delivery of AEMO's risk-based internal audit and assurance program, working closely with stakeholders across the business.
- Plan, execute and document internal audit engagements, assessing the effectiveness of governance, risk management and internal controls.
- Identify risks, control gaps and improvement opportunities, providing practical recommendations to strengthen business processes and outcomes.
- Leverage data analytics and insights to enhance audit effectiveness, identify trends and support informed decision-making.
- Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships, delivering clear audit findings, monitoring remediation actions and partnering with leaders to drive continuous improvement.
What you will bring to the role
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Accounting, Engineering, or a related discipline. Professional qualifications such as CA, CPA, CIA, CISA, CISSP, or equivalent are highly regarded.
- Demonstrated experience delivering internal audit, risk assurance, or governance programs within a complex or regulated environment.
- Strong expertise in operational and IT audit, risk management, cybersecurity, and project assurance reviews.
- Sound knowledge of internal audit standards, methodologies, governance frameworks, and control environments.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships and influence outcomes at all levels.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with a focus on identifying risks, generating insights, and driving continuous improvement.
