Group Manager - Organisation Development

Division: Organisation Development

Reference number: 13370

Engagement type: Permanent

AEMO at the Heart of Energy

AEMO is Australia’s independent energy system and market operator and system planner. AEMO’s purpose is to ensure safe, reliable and affordable energy today, and enable the energy transition for the benefit of all Australians. Australian governments are now committed to a net zero economy for Australia by 2050 and our vision is to enable this. We have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to co-design the future of our energy systems, and our core values revolve around character, commitment, and connection. Join us as we contribute to this significant transition in the energy sector.

About the role

Help shape the capability, leadership and culture AEMO needs for the future.

Australia’s energy system is undergoing significant transformation, and ensuring our organisation and our people are ready for what’s ahead is critical to our success.

Reporting to the EGM People & Culture, we’re looking for an experienced Group Manager – Organisational Development to lead AEMO’s enterprise approach to organisational development, leadership, talent, capability, diversity and culture.

This is an opportunity for a well-rounded senior leader who brings strategic thinking, sound commercial judgement and a pragmatic, hands-on approach. You’ll work closely with executives and senior leaders to translate business priorities into practical people and organisational strategies that strengthen performance and build capability for the future.

What you’ll be doing

  • Play a significant enterprise-wide leadership role, shaping and leading AEMO’s enterprise Organisational Development strategy, responding to current and future business and workforce priorities.
  • Lead enterprise approaches across all aspects of Organisational Development, including leadership development, talent and succession, learning and capability, early careers, diversity and inclusion, and culture.
  • Partner with executives and senior leaders to diagnose organisational challenges, identify capability gaps and deliver solutions that improve organisational effectiveness.
  • Play a key role in organisational transformation and cultural change, including strategic workforce planning, evolving ways of working and the adoption of AI.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing OD team, using workforce insights and commercial judgement to focus investment where it will have the greatest impact.

What you’ll bring

You will bring broad Organisational Development experience, ideally in a mid-sized organisation. You may also have complimented this experience with business or partnering roles where you have honed your commercial thinking and stakeholder skills.

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Strong commercial acumen and business partnering experience, with the credibility to influence, advise and constructively challenge executives and senior leaders.
  • Broad expertise across leadership development, talent and succession, organisational design, culture and change, with exposure to strategic workforce planning.
  • A demonstrated ability to diagnose complex organisational challenges and translate them into clear, practical and impactful solutions.
  • A pragmatic and delivery-focused mindset, able to move comfortably between enterprise strategy and hands-on execution.
  • Proven experience building and leading high-performing teams and delivering outcomes in a complex organisational environment.
  • Tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Organisational Development, Organisational Psychology, Business or related discipline.

In return some of our benefits to you

  • Flexible working: work from home, part time, job share, hybrid options, and additional leave options
  • Professional development via projects, industry networks, job rotation, study assistance and more.
  • Give back with up to 4 days of volunteering leave per year.
  • Reward your hard work with annual performance bonuses (subject to eligibility).
  • Embrace a healthier you with our wellness program, discounted health insurance, gym perks and our comprehensive Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

About Our Process

At AEMO we are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workforce. We welcome people of all backgrounds, including people with disabilities and neurodivergence and those who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. If you have any accessibility requirements to support you during the application or interview process, simply let us know by emailing us at talent@aemo.com.au
