Division: System Design

Department: Onboarding & Connections

Reference number: 13031

Engagement type: Permanent

AEMO at the Heart of Energy

AEMO is Australia’s independent energy system and market operator and system planner. AEMO’s purpose is to ensure safe, reliable and affordable energy today, and enable the energy transition for the benefit of all Australians. Australian governments are now committed to a net zero economy for Australia by 2050 and our vision is to enable this. We have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to co-design the future of our energy systems, and our core values revolve around character, commitment, and connection. Join us as we contribute to this significant transition in the energy sector.

About the role

Step into a pivotal role at the centre of Australia’s energy transformation. As a Project Manager within our Onboarding and Connections team, you’ll help shape the future of the National Electricity Market (NEM) by delivering high‑impact projects that enable new technologies and innovative energy solutions.

In this dynamic position, you will work closely with a wide range of internal stakeholders, as well as key external partners including Network Service Providers (NSPs) and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). Your leadership will drive the successful delivery of a diverse portfolio of projects spanning multiple technology types.

You will play a crucial role in supporting major connections projects and exploring emerging technologies before they are integrated into the NEM, placing you at the forefront of one of the most significant transitions in the energy sector’s history.

What you will be doing

  • Optimise resource planning by partnering with the Team Manager to assess workload across all project phases, identifying resourcing gaps, preventing overload, and uncovering opportunities for capability development.
  • Drive strong stakeholder engagement, collaborating proactively with internal teams, external partners, and clients to ensure project success and clearly defined expectations.
  • Apply agile thinking and proactive problem solving to address unique project challenges with speed and independence, enabling technical specialists to stay focused on delivery.
  • Champion process improvements across the Onboarding and Connections team, working closely with Operations to streamline workflows and enhance project outcomes.
  • Support technical project delivery by tracking progress, coordinating resourcing and prioritisation, and aligning with existing project management tools and practices—including implementing the Early Assessment Framework with OEMs and managing associated contracts and resources.

What you will bring to the role

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in project management, engineering, or a related discipline, with recognised project management certifications highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated experience (5+ years) delivering and managing multiple projects or programs, ideally within the energy sector or comparable complex industries, with strong understanding of regulatory, commercial, and legal considerations.
  • Ability to navigate and communicate complex technical concepts, managing multidisciplinary teams and supporting large‑scale engineering initiatives with clarity and confidence.
  • Strong stakeholder and client engagement skills, including relationship building, negotiation, problem solving, and the ability to produce high‑quality written and verbal communications for diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in project management and CRM software, with proven capability to analyse project data, work effectively in a matrixed environment, and drive coordinated delivery across internal and external partners.

In return some of our benefits to you

  • Flexible working: work from home, part time, job share, hybrid options, and additional leave options
  • Professional development via projects, industry networks, job rotation, study assistance and more.
  • Give back with up to 4 days of volunteering leave per year.
  • Reward your hard work with annual performance bonuses (subject to eligibility).
  • Embrace a healthier you with our wellness program, discounted health insurance, gym perks and our comprehensive Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

About Our Process

At AEMO we are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workforce. We welcome people of all backgrounds, including people with disabilities and neurodivergence and those who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. If you have any accessibility requirements to support you during the application or interview process, simply let us know by emailing us at talent@aemo.com.au
