Estimator
Would you like to be part of the Commercial function within BAE Systems? We currently have vacancies for Estimators at our sites in our sites in Portsmouth and Hillend.
As an Estimator, you will be part of the Commercial function, working closely with all areas of the business across a broad spectrum of tasks. You will support estimating activities across our lines of business, including the Support of Warships in Portsmouth, the provision of Engineering & Digital Services and the delivery Products & Training Services. Your primary involvement will be to support the business through the creation of cost and price estimates, relating to the management of changes on existing contracts and the capture of new business, through to the supply of critical data and analysis in support of key business decision making processes.
If you have a passion for numbers and pricing but are at the beginning of your career, we will provide a structured development plan and a mentor to support you as develop your existing skills. On the other hand if you are experienced with a track record of working on major programmes, we are keen for you to join our team and work with us on a number of exciting projects. Estimating is unique in the breadth of experience and understanding it can offer great opportunity to gain exposure across Maritime Services as well as the wider BAE Systems business.
Your main responsibilities as an Estimator will involve:
Supporting Bids, Campaigns or Projects teams, including the compilation of final costing and pricing information, whilst playing a key role in the team.
Determining the most effective and appropriate cost estimating methods to support the overall bid strategy.
Maintaining an independent top-down estimate for the scope of work for the bid.
Coordinating of cost and pricing activities to ensure all aspects of the programme and associated risks are fully costed and considered.
Validating or challenging of functional estimate returns through the compilation of independent views to drive affordable and profitable solutions.
Scenario and “what-if” analysis on a micro to macro level to understand estimate sensitivities and inform key business decisions.
Understanding the contract or tender terms and conditions and their impact on pricing, and communicating this to the bid teams.
Developing and maintaining internal and external Customer relationships, including playing a key role in Customer price investigations and negotiations.
Supporting supplier price investigations and negotiations to ensure value for money
Ensuring that Estimating Processes are understood and implemented throughout the wider organisation, leading to the creation of accurate and reliable estimating data.
Your skills and qualifications:
Background experience in areas such as Engineering, Planning, Project Controls, Commercial, Sales and Finance.
Strong skills in the use of Microsoft packages, specifically MS Excel, Project and PowerPoint.
Experience using SAP, ProPricer or any other analytical tools is desirable
Experience working in Defence or Manufacturing is desirable.
