About the Role
An exciting opportunity exists for a commercial lawyer to join BOQ’s highly regarded in-house legal team, as a Senior Legal Counsel. This is an exciting time to join the BOQ Group as it continues on its digital transformation journey and integrates ME Bank, with a view to creating a real alternative to the big banks. You will also be joining a legal team that is highly regarded both within the BOQ Group as well as by its peers, being a finalist in the Lawyers Weekly Corporate Counsel Awards 2021 for Financial Services Team of the Year and a finalist for In-House Team of the Year at the Australian Law Awards 2021.
In this pivotal role, you will provide the primary Legal Support for the BOQ Group’s Technology and Procurement teams as well as other Commercial areas across the BOQ Group.
Responsibilities will include:
- Drafting a wide range of commercial agreements predominantly in the IT and financial services space including master services agreements, statements of work, software licenses, SaaS, NDA’s, alliance/partner arrangements, distribution agreements, marketing and sponsorship and other bespoke agreements;
- Leading complex negotiations with vendors on material outsourcing agreements and other third parties on strategic transactions and initiatives across the BOQ Group including to support the Bank’s digital transformation;
- Corporate advisory support and commercially focused, pragmatic advice to various business areas on diverse transactions including M&A, privacy, intellectual property, regulatory change and arrangements with commercial partners;
- Advising on governance requirements and developing process improvements and operational efficiencies relating to contract review and digital signing;
- Maintaining template agreements library;
- Maintaining strong relationships with procurement and other key stakeholders , including regular training sessions; and
- Providing legal support to Major Projects and participating in Committees.
This role reports to the Head of Legal – Lending & Commercial.
About You
We are seeking an individual with previous experience (min 7 years PQE) in private practice or in an in-house role, which involved third party vendor negotiations including in relation to IT contracts. Banking and/or financial services experience is highly preferred. Applicants must be admitted as a legal practitioner in Australia.
