Project Overview:

Now in execution, Kangwinan will establish a new bauxite production centre south-east of Rio Tinto’s Amrun mine, including a 15-kilometre conveyor to transport ore to expanded stockyard and wharf facilities at Amrun. Bechtel is working with Rio Tinto to deliver this significant project through to first ore in 2029.

Kangwinan is on the Traditional lands of the Wik & Wik Waya Peoples and carries a name given by the Wik Waya People. This is your opportunity to help build one of Queensland’s landmark resources projects, working respectfully on Country alongside Traditional Owners and local communities. You'll be part of a team that puts safety first, values strong relationships and takes pride in handing over a world-class operation.

Job Summary:

As a Materials Coordinator, you will work closely with Project Management, Engineering, Construction, Project Controls, Supply Chain personnel, contractors and customer representatives to support the planning, coordination and execution of project materials management activities.

Reporting to the Project Field Procurement Manager, the role helps maintain alignment between project schedules, engineering deliverables, procurement activities, material availability and construction requirements. Success in the role will depend on building productive working relationships across multiple project functions and helping ensure project materials information is accurately reflected within project systems and reporting tools.

The role provides the opportunity to contribute across the materials lifecycle, from planning and requisition management through to inventory visibility, materials reporting, discrepancy resolution and project closeout activities.

Major Responsibilities:

Support materials planning across the project to align material requirements, procurement activities and availability with project schedules. Responsibilities include:

  • reviewing schedules, sequencing and progress information to identify material requirements and potential impacts;
  • supporting alignment between material requirements, requisition dates, procurement activities and planned delivery;
  • maintaining visibility of material availability and status; and contributing to contingency planning where schedule or material requirements change.

Support the coordination and visibility of materials from requisition through fulfilment and inventory management. Responsibilities include:

  • monitoring material requisitions and procurement status;
  • supporting fulfilment activities for Bechtel- and contractor-procured materials;
  • maintaining materials information, inventory status and the material responsibility matrix within approved project systems; and supporting the agreed division of materials responsibilities across project, support and field offices.

Work collaboratively with Engineering, Purchasing, Expediting, Contracts, Construction, contractors, suppliers and customer representatives to:

  • coordinate materials management activities and maintain clear communication across project functions;
  • support resolution of Unsatisfactory, Overage, Shortage and Damage (UOS&D) items and other materials-related concerns;
  • assist with technical issues identified during receiving; and maintain appropriate records of material discrepancies and resolutions.

Support materials management activities through project completion, including:

  • procurement and materials closeout;
  • coordination and settlement of material claims and back-charges;
  • disposition of surplus materials; and materials-related closeout documentation and reporting.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or
  • Alternatively 9-12 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:

Successful candidates will typically bring:

  • An understanding of materials management processes within project environments.
  • Familiarity with Engineering, Supply Chain, Procurement or Construction work processes, and how these functions interact such as in EPCM organisations.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications and materials-management, procurement or project systems.
  • An understanding of purchase requisitions, material status tracking or inventory reporting processes.
  • Familiarity with vendor, fabricator, contractor and customer documentation associated with procurement and materials activities.
  • Experience supporting work packaging, materials status reporting or related project controls activities.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with Engineering, Construction, Supply Chain, Project Controls, contractors and project management personnel.
  • Sound organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • A willingness to learn and contribute across a broad range of materials management activities.
  • Knowledge of digital supply chain or integrated procurement systems may be advantageous.
