About the Canva Foundation
The Canva Foundation’s mission is to empower every human to create a safe, free, and happy life for themselves. We aim to use the best of Canva to do this, by empowering every Canvanaut to help us in a way that suits them best.
We do this through our 4 key focus areas:
1. Empower nonprofits
We provide opportunities for Canvanauts to be a Force for Good through volunteering, local grants and gift matching with a goal of amplifying the work of nonprofits.
Every Canvanaut gets 3 days of paid volunteering leave and dollar for dollar gift matching up to $5K dollars each year. At an organisational level, we dedicate one Friday a month to being a Force for Good through our ‘Force for Good Fridays’ in a hands-on and tangible way. It’s a day full of Force for Good peak moments for all Canvanauts, everywhere.
2. Support crises
We support communities in times of crisis, with a focus on vulnerable communities and deploying funds as quickly as possible in partnership with grassroots organizations on-the-ground. Here is an example of our recent crisis support campaign during the Ukraine crisis and the Aussies for Afghanistan Appeal.
3. Give work
This is all about empowering people living in poverty with design skills to earn a living wage in the digital economy, through our Education to Employment program. We recently completed a pilot in the Philippines and are now exploring program expansion.
4. End poverty
This is the work we're doing towards ending extreme poverty via direct cash transfers in partnership with GiveDirectly, a nonprofit that sends money directly to the world’s poorest households via unconditional cash transfers. We believe that people living in poverty deserve the dignity to choose for themselves how best to improve their lives — and cash enables that choice.
Bringing our 31% Pledge to life
The work of Canva Foundation is core to Canva’s culture, and Canva wouldn't be the company it is without our "Be a Force for Good" ethos and passion to tackle some of the root causes of the world's biggest problems.
The engagement of every Canvanaut and of our users and the broader community is key to the Foundation’s success and ability to set crazy big goals and make them happen.
About the Education to Employment Team
The E2E are on a mission to empower people living in poverty with design skills to enable them to find ongoing paid work in the digital economy, so they can lift themselves out of poverty.
This team will create a program that teaches broad and in-depth design topics, making them applicable, engaging and accessible to these individuals, whilst ensuring we give individuals practical work readiness skills and commercial insights.
They will create both practical and hands-on modules, exercises, assessments, critiques and feedback to ensure knowledge lands. The end goal is to ensure our students are engaged and feel equipped and confident to take on new challenges and land paid online work after completing our course.
About the Program Manager role you'll be doing:
As the program manager, you will work closely with the E2E Design Educator, alongside our NGO implementing partners across the globe to roll out our Education to Employment program from inception to completion. You will be the person connecting all the parts of the program and all stakeholders together, and be the driving force to ensure our programs are impactful and achieve the desired goals and outcomes.
If you love solving problems for social impact and have skills in project management, technology, innovation, and people.. then this is the role for you!
Program Design and Management
'Connect all the dots' between the Foundation, our implementing partners, and our students on-the-ground by building project plans to achieve our goals, with specific milestones and timelines.
Manage the program by communicating with all stakeholders and holding them accountable to the program goals to ensure outcomes are achieved in a timely manner.
Own continuous improvement and iteration.
Ensure leadership buy-in each step of the way.
Budget and Partnerships
Budget: Negotiate & manage budgets from our implementing partners and work with Foundation Finance to disperse prorgam funding as required.
Partnerships
Own and manage the relationship with prorgam implementing partners (i.e. our NGO partners who ensure program delivery on-the-ground)
Facilitate in-kind partnerships where possible (i.e. Google partnership to supply all Chromebooks, internet connections etc)
Connection to paid work
Student offboarding and connection to paid work Create a scalable system to help students get online jobs via the gig-economy, may include establishing formal freelance marketplace partnerships. This will include assisting students to build a profile via online marketplaces by helping them get their first few jobs and/or strategically sourcing and landing jobs and clients that align with their skill sets. Support, Coach + Alumni: Work with the E2E Educator to establish a community of support & feedback from designers and coaches within Canva, or our design ecosystem. Certification or nadging: Explore formal certification or badges for students (i.e. a ‘Canva designer LinkedIn badge’).
Measurement, Evaluation & Reporting
Framework: Build a framework to measure the impact of the project, in collaboration with the E2E Design Eductaor and our implementing NGO partners.
Iterate: Share insights, data and feedback to parties to iterate as needed
Report: Report on program impact (outputs + outcomes; quantitative & qualitative) to leadership and all relevant stakeholders.
Goals you’ll achieve
Goal #1 - You’ll establish strong relationships with key stakeholders within Canva and our NGO partners.
Goal #2 - You’ll work with our NGO partners to refine our country plans to get our Education to Employment program off the ground, including budgets, actions, logistics and reporting.
Goal #3 - You’ll see the program launched, including the ‘connection to paid work’ goal, with two initial countries and monitor the progress of students.
Goal #4 - You’ll review the program and its impact and recommend improvements on how to scale and improve the program.
Goal #5 - You’ll proactively look for additional opportunities to continue to expand the reach of Education to Employment.
Goal #6 - You’ll support and foster the student alumni community.
What we’re looking for
You'll be an experienced program manager with experience in the social impact / NGO space
You’ll have a propensity for taking charge of multiple streams of concurrent work, whether this be spearheading decision and strategy documents, to coordinating logistics with our global partners.
You’ll understand how to measure the success of our program - this is a critical part of the role. We are only successful if we ensure we set our students up for success and equip them with all the skills and tools they need to succeed in their future roles and access paid work, as well as ensure the program has the right elements to scale and succeed.
You’ll have the ability to look for opportunity for improvements within the program and enact these efficiently and purposefully.
Making complex things simple is at the core of everything we do at Education to Employment. You’ll constantly analyse and test new processes to result in the most effective and efficient solutions.
You’ll be someone who is comfortable with ambiguity, taking things from chaos to clarity and making decisions on the go.
Most importantly, you’re an optimist who believes we can create life changing impact for the young people we work for in this prorgam.
