About CEHL

Common Equity Housing Ltd (CEHL) is Australia’s largest co‑operative housing provider. Our purpose led, community-based housing model delivers lasting social impact by putting people at the centre of everything we do. For more than 40 years, we’ve provided safe, secure and affordable housing across Victoria. We manage over 2,000 homes and work in partnership with more than 80 housing co‑operatives, supporting around 5,000 co‑op members and CEHL direct renters.

The opportunity

We’re seeking an experienced and motivated Property Officer to join CEHL and build a meaningful career with a stable, respected registered housing provider.

You’ll be part of a collaborative and supportive team, working closely with CEHL teams to support the delivery of an innovative, renter‑centred housing model that genuinely puts people first.

Why work with us

  • Generous salary packaging, including meals and entertainment allowance
  • Six additional days of paid leave
  • Hybrid working arrangements
  • 17.5% annual leave loading
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Program
  • Modern Carlton office close to Lygon Street cafés and local parks.

If you value purpose led work, integrity and collaboration, CEHL is a place where you can do work that matters.

About the role

The Property Officer is responsible for managing property condition, vacant works, property inspections, reporting, works scopes, and inspection activity across CEHL properties. The role asses and documents works required, maintains accurate property information in SBM, participates in co-operative asset plans and maintenance plans, and then hands approved work requirements to Procurement / Purchasing supplier allocation. The Property Officer will then inspect works to ensure they are completed safely, appropriately and to the required quality standard.

About you

You have experience working in a relevant trade, building, property, construction, residential maintenance, vacant work or renewal works environment. You bring experience in inspecting residential properties, identifying maintenance, vacant works and renewal needs and accurately recording condition data. Your experience in preparing scopes of work, documenting site requirement and a keen eye for assessing completion and variation works will set you apart. You are committed to delivering safe, compliant and high-quality asset services that support positive renter outcomes.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A drivers licence as the work will cover a geographic region.
  • Experience working in a relevant trade or environment.
  • Sound working knowledge of the Residential Tenancies Act, Occupational Health, Safety legislation, and Privacy legislation.
  • Experience preparing scopes of work.
  • Proven customer service skills and a friendly professional manner.
  • Strong administrative, reporting, record keeping, time management and numerous skills
  • Ability to arrange inspections directly with renters and / or co-operatives and communicate access requirements clearly and respectfully.
  • Ability to support investigations and complaints relating to works or inspections with accurate records, balanced judgement and practical resolution options
  • The ability to quickly learn and confidently use IT systems.
  • Friendly, approachable, and professional manner when engaging with members, co-operatives, colleagues and external stakeholders.
  • The desire to work as part of team to deliver great outcomes for our tenants.

If this sounds like you, and you're looking to join a purpose driven organisation dedicated to providing long-term, secure and affordable housing to communities across Victoria, please apply now with your CV and a Cover Letter outlining you interest in the role and why you would like to join our team. Please note that shortlisting will commence as applications are received.

All applicants must have the right to work in Australia and will be required to undertake a Police Check. A Working with Children Check is also a requirement of this role.

CEHL is an equal opportunity employer committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and respectful workplace. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and experiences, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, people with disabilities, LGBTQIA+ communities, and people of all ages.

We ensure fair and equitable treatment throughout the recruitment process and encourage candidates to let us know if any adjustments are needed to support full participation.

Due to the inherent requirements of this role, applicants must not have a current tenancy relationship with the organisation.

You will be notified of the outcome of your application within 4 weeks.
