Your Opportunity:
CPB are seeking a Quantity Surveyor to join our Melbourne team. The role of a Quantity Surveyor works under the guidance of the Commercial Manager to deliver the commercial operational commitments of the business and projects(s).
As the Quantity Surveyor, you will be accountable for:
- Effective administration of subcontracts, including assessment of variations, claims and ensuring timely payments whilst maintaining professional relationships with supply chain
- Understand general contractual provisions on payment claims, variations, delay, insurances, securities, practical completion
- Keep accurate and complete records and ensure the various document control registers are kept updated
- Close and Completion of Contracts including obtaining a list of defects, drafting Certificates of Substantial Completion, obtaining Deeds of Release, returning Security and closing out open financial commitments in SAP
- Understand insurance provisions in the Standard forms of contract. Understand the following insurance concepts, joint names, subrogation, net contribution clauses, in the aggregate, each and every event and excess provisions
- Understand the principles of dispute resolution and the mechanisms under the contract to resolve disputes and demonstrate strong dispute resolution skills
- Provide reasoned commercial advice on the strength of our position for matters in dispute and advise on resolution and recovery strategies
- Compile evidence and quantifications for a dispute resolution process for both prosecution and defence of claims (upstream and downstream)
- Conduct preliminary commercial evaluation of tenders from subcontractors and appraise bids by liaising with Project Managers and Engineers to assess bids
Our minimum requirements for these roles are:
- Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Commerce, Law, Engineering or equivalent
- Proven experience in a Contracts Administration or similar position.
- Strong communication skills (oral & written) including strong negotiation and influencing skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships with a variety of people at different levels both internally and externally.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently to organise and prioritise demands, handle multiple complex tasks simultaneously, set and meet deadlines and follow-through within a fast-paced environment with multiple and competing demands
- Advanced skills in MS Excel
- Experience in claims / variations
- Experience in a utility and/or service industry
- Experience of SAP Software / accounting and associated reporting
