Embedded in our people is a passionate commitment in helping others through the delivery of justice, and as a firm we have a mantra of being ‘in and of the community’ and it is through this lens that our commitment to Social Impact has evolved. By embedding purpose into our work, we drive meaningful outcomes for our people, our communities, and our planet.
Our People
At Dentons, diversity is the natural outcome of a workplace built on fairness, merit, and genuine respect for individuality. Our approach is about creating an environment where everyone feels safe and has an equal opportunity to succeed. Every voice matters, every idea counts, and every perspective enriches our ability to serve our clients and communities effectively.
We also run regular inclusive events, mentoring programs and training that foster a culture where people feel supported, respected and empowered to thrive. These firm-led initiatives create no need for Diversity Networks instead we create space for our people to channel their grass roots passion into community engagement, volunteering and pro bono work.
This is simply how we work. People can expect flexible arrangements that support their lifestyle, 26 weeks of family leave for any direct carer of a new child, and an extra week of annual leave when they take all their allocated leave each year. It’s all part of creating an environment where our people can grow, give back and feel genuinely valued.Â
Our Community
Our commitment to community shapes both who we are and how we operate. Volunteer leave empowers our people to actively support meaningful causes, complemented by firm-wide initiatives like the Lilla Sports & Storytelling Festival, which encourages Aboriginal children in remote communities to value education.
We also partner with various Australian charities to raise awareness and funds, contribute our pro bono expertise, and regularly organise drives for essential items, alongside environmental initiatives such as tree planting. Together, these efforts enable us to make a tangible, lasting impact.
We embed social responsibility from the start, with all new graduates expected to contribute at least 35 hours of pro bono work in their first year. See more about our pro bono work in Australia here.
Our Planet
We proactively measure and reduce our environmental impact, aligning with our global net-zero emissions goal and actively reduce emissions by minimising air travel, optimising our offices, and working collaboratively with suppliers and building management for our offices on Tarndanya (Adelaide), Meanjin (Brisbane),Naarm (Melbourne), Boorloo (Perth) and Warrane (Sydney).
Our innovative Million Positive Impacts program further engages our people to actively contribute to reducing their own personal footprint, magnifying our collective positive impact on the planet. Our clients can also use this program, reach out to us for more information.
