The Opportunity

The Trainee Transmission System Operator forms part of the Network Operations team, providing expert advice and support to ensure the highest level of transmission network reliability is maintained.

As a Trainee you will be working under direct supervision and will receive on-the-job training to develop competency in the real time operation, monitoring, coordination, and control of South Australia’s transmission system. The training program will extend over 12 – 24 months and will require shift work to provide the full breadth of experience required in the role. On completion of the training program, you will perform roster relief and project support until a permanent position on the roster becomes available.

About You

The ideal candidate can come through a few different pathways:

  • Pathway 1 - direct field based high-voltage switching experience
  • Pathway 2 – previous network control room operations experience (high-voltage desired)

We will consider applicants who are either an Electrical trade skilled worker or who have an Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering (desirable), both with a current (or past) ElectraNet switching Licence Category 2 and with proven experience in the field.

You will also demonstrate the ability to work across many tasks concurrently and on critical high-risk work activities with thoughtfulness and clear intent.

Your strong communication skills will be key in this environment and will allow you to engage with and influence a diverse stakeholder group in a complex, technical environment.

We’re looking for individuals who:

  • Advanced Knowledge of substation and transmission system components, performance and operation
  • Previous HV control room experience (considered)
  • Valid Australian Car Driver’s Licence (or eligibility to obtain one)
  • Understanding of the Australian Energy Market, its purpose and operation
  • A demonstrable approach to creating and enforcing safe systems of work
  • Experience working in the High Voltage Transmission/Distribution/Generation industry
