About the Role
The work is exciting, fast-paced, and varied. You will be a valued member of project teams that have a mix of internal and client team members, contractors, and specialist development partners. You’ll support and advise, both inside and outside of Exa. In a typical week, you may be contributing to proposal generation or project/systems planning, architecting, writing and testing code, collaborating with colleagues through technical review and mentorship, and consulting clients.
As an Embedded Software Engineer, you’ll get to work with modern development tools and technologies such a RTOS, embedded Linux, and IoT/Cloud solutions. You will have direct engagement with clients, exposure to full product lifecycle development, and close collaboration with other disciplines, giving you the tools, visibility, and input you need to get the job done. We have a culture of self-management, so, you’ll have a high degree of ownership, flexibility, and accountability in your role.

To be Successful in this Role You Will
- Value communication and collaboration with diverse internal and external teams
- Have 5+ years of professional experience in Embedded C OR C++ AND Python
- Have a high degree of competency in unit testing and the principles of test-driven design
- Be comfortable contributing to software planning, requirements, architecture, design, testing, reviews
- Have a Bachelor of Engineering in Software or Electronics, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or a related discipline
The Following Skills are Favourable
- Experience developing medical devices to standards like IEC 62304 and ISO 13485
- Experience working with Embedded Linux
- Knowledge of software architecture and design as it relates to systems engineering
- Professional experience working with STM32 AND/OR Nordic devices

Where You’ll Be
- A mix of work at home and at Exa's Abbotsford office and lab
- 40-hour workweek with standard hours of 09.00 - 17.30; flexible options e.g. 08:00 - 16:30
- Some travel in Australia as projects require
- Relocation support to Melbourne considered (from within Australia or New Zealand)
