About the role
We are looking for a strong Systems Specialist (with PV or NV2 clearance) to provide first point of contact for HQJOC staff for service requests and incident resolution. Whilst this position provides support at the Server /Network Administrator level, the role will also need to be deliver Desktop Support with a significant amount of ‘hands on’ fault resolution and desktop/workstation support. This position would be ideally suited to someone looking to build on current technical lskills in order to broaden their experience.
The Server / Network Administrator reports directly to the(TLO)Team Leader Operations.
About you
The Server / Network Administrator will be a member of 20 Fujitsu staff working at HQJOC ICT/AV Support Team which is responsible for Level 1 and Level 2 and 3rd level support activities, including:
- Level 1 support via DSMS in support of HQJOC clients and operations on a 24x7x365 basis.
- Central point of ICT troubleshooting for users done through phone call, email and face-to-face support services
- ICT support and incident management activities done on 24x7x365 basis.
- Onsite assistance with hardware and software related issues experienced by approximately 850 users located at HQJOC.
- Support to VIP clients for the timely resolution of incidents and support requests.
- Desktop / Workstation support and more complex incident resolution.
- Server management and monitoring in the DSN, DRN and stand-alone environments.
- Network monitoring and support.
- System and software patching and maintenance.
- Data backup and storage support for some systems based at HQJOC.
- Asset management activities including the coordination of Defence desktop equipment and other hardware and consumable stocks.
- Limited Major Incident Management(MIM).
- Problem Coordination activities.
Skills and Experience:
PRIMARY SKILLS (ESSENTIAL)
- Proven knowledge of Physical Server Hardware (IBM, HP, DELL) and / or Blade Server Hardware(IBM,HP).
- Proven knowledge of NetApp Filer Storage Devices.
- Proven knowledge of Tape Library Hardware.
- Proven knowledge of Network Switches, Routers, VLAN’s.
- Proven knowledge in patching with various fiber types.
- Demonstrated ability to provide/assist in the rollout of new server hardware and other releases of server based software including the performance of acceptance testing.
- Demonstrated skills and experience in an ITIL based environment with an understanding of principles and practices associated with Incident and Service Request fulfilment.
- Attention to detail in providing a high level of support to clients
SECONDARY SKILLS
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a small team environment.
- Proven ability to show initiative in work activities and complete tasks with little direction.
- High level organizational skills and able to work effectively in a demanding environment at times under pressure.
- Demonstrated ability to liaise and negotiate with a range of ICT resolver groups and other stakeholders.
- The ability to learn quickly and perform desktop support role as required in a high profile environment.
- Proven knowledge of the Change, release and configuration process.
- Maintains an understanding of Service Management Tools (Service Manager)
