Gemco Rail, a subsidiary of Engenco Limited, specialises in the manufacture and refurbishment of rail products and provision of maintenance services to national rail operators. The company provides wheel-sets, bogies and in-field wagon maintenance, and manufactures new and refurbished wagons, bogie component parts, rail track maintenance equipment, and customised, remote-controlled ballast car discharge gates, as well as repair, maintenance and refurbishment of locomotives.
Your New Opportunity
Gemco Rail is excited to offer a new opportunity for a driven and enthusiastic HSEQ Coordinator to join our Rockhampton facility on a full-time basis. In this role, you will support the site's health, safety, environment, and quality systems by conducting inspections, audits, risk assessments, incident investigations, and training. You will work closely with employees and leaders to maintain compliance, promote a strong safety culture, and drive continuous improvement across the facility.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, monitor, and enforce safety and quality protocols across the facility to ensure all rollingstock, comply with rail regulatory frameworks & customer specifications.
Risk Management: Conduct hazard identifications, Make Safe Observations, workplace risk assessments, Management of Change (MoC) & Take 5 training/compliance.
Auditing & Inspection: Perform regular site inspections, compliance audits, assist with customer audits, and equipment reviews including calibration.
Incident Investigation: Lead root-cause investigations for injuries, near misses, or quality failures, and track corrective actions.
Interface safety: Establish and audit safe working boundaries regarding track configuration, lockout/isolation, operation of points and yard shunting movements.
Training & Induction: Deliver HSEQ inductions, toolbox talks, emergency response drills, and staff training.
Environmental & Waste Tracking: Monitor waste disposal, emissions, and environmental sustainability targets.
Adhere to safety procedures and maintain quality control standards.
Comply with workplace safety requirements and correctly use PPE at all times
Essential Skills:
- CERT IV in WHS or similar
- Lead Auditor qualifications or experience
- Ability to work under own initiative.
- Collaborative approach to work.
- Reacts well under pressure and within tight timeframes
- Experience leading continuous improvement projects
Desirable Skills:
Rail Industry Experience & understanding of RSNL
ICAM Lead Investigator training or similar incident investigation training/experience.
HLTPAT010 Collect specimens for drugs of abuse testing
Trade Qualifications or Degree/Diploma
Good knowledge of ISO9001/45001/14001
Knowledge of Lean Principles
