Join a company that is passionately committed to the pursuit of a better world through positive change. With more than 70 years of business and technical expertise in mining, energy, and infrastructure, our 10,000 colleagues in 150 countries tirelessly work toward bettering the industries in which we operate. With practical solutions that are safe, innovative and sustainable, we think globally while acting locally. Are you looking for an opportunity to join a diverse group of professionals who are committed to remaining exceptional? We look forward to hearing from you.

If it isn't grown, it's mined. Our mining and metals teams help our clients to safely and sustainably mine the minerals and metals used in our everyday lives. Want to play a part of innovating and optimizing the mining life cycle on greenfield and brownfield facilities? Apply today!

We are seeking an experienced Senior Tailings Engineer to join Hatch’s Tailings and Mine Waste Management practice. This role is suited to a highly motivated professional with strong technical capability and a client-facing approach, who is passionate about delivering high-quality solutions and contributing to the ongoing growth of the practice. You will play a key role in delivering complex tailings and mine waste management projects, while supporting business development and mentoring team members. Working within a global, multidisciplinary team, you will contribute across the full lifecycle of projects from early-stage studies through to detailed design, operational support, and closure planning. This position focuses on the design, management, and delivery of integrated tailings, mine waste, and mine water solutions. You will lead and contribute to multidisciplinary teams, support project execution and strategy, and provide senior technical oversight across a diverse portfolio of work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated tailings, mine waste, and mine water management solutions
  • Lead studies including site selection, dewatering technologies, subsurface investigations, and laboratory testing programs for material characterisation
  • Oversee transport, conveyance, and disposal studies including embankment design, deposition modelling, capping, and closure planning
  • Contribute to surface water management design, dam break analyses, and flood routing assessments
  • Support project execution through material take-offs, scheduling, and conceptual CapEx and OpEx cost estimation
  • Prepare and review technical documentation including reports, design basis memoranda, specifications, and engineering drawings
  • Provide senior technical review and guidance across tailings and mine waste management projects
  • Support business development activities including proposals, tenders, and client engagement

About You

You are a degree-qualified Civil or Geotechnical Engineer with extensive experience in tailings management, gained through consulting or operations within the mining sector. You bring well-rounded expertise across tailings design, operations support, and closure planning, with a strong understanding of project delivery from pre-feasibility through to execution. You are a confident communicator with proven leadership capability, able to mentor and develop engineers, designers, and technicians while building strong client relationships. You demonstrate sound judgement, strong safety leadership, and the ability to manage competing priorities in complex environments. Experience in integrated tailings facilities, mine water management, or mine closure is essential, along with a willingness to travel as required to support project delivery. You are aligned with Hatch’s values, with a visible commitment to inclusion, diversity, and delivering high-quality outcomes.

Why join us?
