The successful candidate will bring together strong mining engineering fundamentals, practical operational understanding, study management capability and the ability to engage confidently with clients and senior stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Mining Engineering & Technical Leadership

  • Lead and contribute to mining engineering aspects of multidisciplinary mining studies and projects.
  • Develop and review technically sound mining concepts, strategies and development options.
  • Provide input into mine design, mine planning, production strategies, operating philosophies and project development decisions.
  • Evaluate alternative mining methods, development strategies and project configurations to identify practical and value-adding solutions.
  • Integrate mining requirements with geotechnical, geological, processing, infrastructure, mechanical, electrical and other engineering disciplines.
  • Review technical assumptions, design criteria, risks and opportunities associated with mining projects.
  • Provide senior technical review and guidance to mining engineers and project teams.
  • Support value improvement and optimisation initiatives throughout the study lifecycle.
  • Ensure mining solutions appropriately consider safety, constructability, operability, maintainability and overall project economics.

Study & Project Management

  • Lead mining studies through the appropriate phases of project development, including conceptual/scoping, pre-feasibility and feasibility stages.
  • Develop and manage study scopes, execution plans, resource requirements, schedules and budgets.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams across mining, engineering, project controls, procurement, construction planning, environmental and other supporting disciplines as required.
  • Establish clear study objectives, deliverables, interfaces and accountabilities.
  • Monitor study progress, costs and schedule performance and proactively address deviations.
  • Lead technical reviews, design reviews, risk assessments and value optimisation activities.
  • Coordinate the preparation and review of study reports, recommendations, cost estimates and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure studies are delivered to the required technical quality and meet client expectations.
  • Manage interfaces between the client, Hatch project team and external stakeholders.
  • Facilitate workshops and technical review sessions with clients and multidisciplinary teams.

Client & Business Development

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients across the mining industry.
  • Understand client business drivers and translate these into effective study and project solutions.
  • Participate in client presentations, workshops and technical discussions.
  • Support the preparation of proposals, expressions of interest, study estimates and execution strategies.
  • Identify opportunities for additional work and support Hatch's broader business development activities.
  • Represent Hatch as a trusted technical and study management advisor.

Qualifications & Experience

The ideal candidate will bring:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Significant professional experience within the mining industry, with exposure to mining consulting, engineering or EPCM environments strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development and delivery of mining studies.
  • Strong knowledge of the mining project development lifecycle from early-stage concept through PFS/FS and into project execution.
  • Previous experience leading or coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Strong understanding of mine planning, mine design, production scheduling and mining project economics.
  • Experience across underground and/or open-pit mining environments, depending on project requirements.
  • Experience working across multiple commodities would be advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of project scope, schedule, cost, risk and quality management.
  • Professional registration, or eligibility for professional registration, would be advantageous.
