We are seeking a high-performing, versatile professional passionate about the built environment to deliver place strategy and socio-economic analysis across a variety of design and consulting projects.

Based in Sydney or Melbourne, this role will include opportunities to work with our other Australian studios on projects across the country – with a particular focus on developing and supporting East Coast business.

You will play a key role in the success of a growing and developing practice. We will invest in your growth as a valued team member who will contribute from day one.

THE ROLE

You will work on a variety of projects for public and private clients, including:

  • Economic development strategy
  • Investment attraction strategy
  • Socio-economic impact assessment
  • Implementation frameworks
  • Place visions and strategies
  • Masterplans
  • Planning proposals and development applications

Main duties/responsibilities:

  • Provide socio-economic and spatial analysis to support economics and place planning projects
  • Gather, analyse and present spatial and socio-economic data from a variety of sources
  • Build bespoke analytical models quantifying socio-economic impact, development capacity and project feasibility
  • Prepare strategic mapping and spatial graphics
  • Produce clear reports and presentations to communicate project findings to varied audiences
  • Assist in identification of new business opportunities and preparation of proposals and bids including writing technical methodologies
  • Take the lead on management of small- to medium-sized projects successfully balancing commercial and technical outcomes
  • Work collaboratively as part of an integrated multi-disciplinary team
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Qualifications: Degree in business, finance, economics, planning, geography, urban design, social impact or related fields.

Experience: 3 years previous experience in a similar role/industry.

The successful candidate will possess the following characteristics:

  • A curious nature and willingness to learn and adapt to challenges on a diverse range of consultancy projects
  • Strong to advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong to advanced capability with GIS software (ArcGIS or QGis) for mapping and data analysis
  • Ability to analyse and interrogate socioeconomic data and build Excel-based models
  • A passion for, and knowledge of, local economic development and social development issues and trends
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Strong organisation skills
  • Strong ability to anticipate and proactively manage future needs

The following characteristics are also desirable:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft PowerBI
  • Proficiency creating maps and strategic planning graphics using GIS and Adobe Illustrator
  • Proficiency with Adobe Indesign for document production
  • Basic understanding of commercial feasibility assessment
  • Experience in socio-economic impact appraisal and preparation of business cases
