With more than 70 years of business and technical expertise in mining, energy, and infrastructure, our 10,000 colleagues in 150 countries tirelessly work toward bettering the industries in which we operate. With practical solutions that are safe, innovative and sustainable, we think globally while acting locally. Are you looking for an opportunity to join a diverse group of professionals who are committed to remaining exceptional? We look forward to hearing from you.

Environment, People, and Place shape projects that are sustainable, resilient, and people-focused. We bring environmental intelligence and community-centered deisgn to every stage, creating places that thrive socially, economically, and ecologically.

We are seeking an Intermediate Urban Designer to play a key role in shaping high‑quality, people‑centred urban environments. In this role, you’ll contribute to the design of precincts, public spaces, streetscapes and urban renewal projects, working across both strategic and detailed stages of design. This is an opportunity for a developing urban design professional who enjoys blending creativity with context, analysis and collaboration. You’ll work with a multidisciplinary team of planners, architects, landscape architects and engineers, contributing strong design thinking, visual communication and technical rigour to projects that support healthy, vibrant and resilient communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake site analysis, contextual studies and urban character assessments to inform design outcomes
  • Develop concept designs, masterplans and urban design frameworks for precinct and public realm projects
  • Prepare and test design options, producing diagrams, visualisations and illustrative material
  • Produce high‑quality drawings, 3D models, renders and graphics to clearly communicate design intent
  • Prepare urban design reports, design guidelines and supporting documentation
  • Manage small to medium‑scale design packages with a level of autonomy, while supporting senior designers on complex projects
  • Coordinate with internal disciplines and external consultants to integrate technical inputs
  • Assist with stakeholder and community engagement activities, incorporating feedback into design refinement

About You

You hold a degree in Urban Design, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Planning or a related built‑environment discipline and bring 2–5 years’ experience working in an urban design role, ideally within a consultancy, government or design studio environment. You are confident using industry design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, Rhino, AutoCAD and GIS, and you take pride in producing clear, visually engaging and well‑considered design outputs. You combine strong spatial and analytical thinking with a collaborative mindset, communicate effectively through drawings, text and presentations, and are motivated to contribute to urban places that are sustainable, inclusive and people‑focused.

Why join us?

  • Work with great people to make a difference
  • Collaborate on exciting projects to develop innovative solutions
  • Top employer
