  • Manufacturing and construction environments
  • Site inspections, testing, and commissioning activities
  • Workplace safety and engineering standards
  • Technical documentation and reporting
  • Energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives

Whether you're looking to develop your technical expertise, apply your university learning in a practical environment, or explore a career in industrial refrigeration, this role provides an excellent platform to launch your engineering career.

What We Offer

  • Hands-on industry experience on real engineering projects
  • Mentoring and guidance from experienced engineers and industry professionals
  • Exposure to a broad range of engineering disciplines and project activities
  • A collaborative and supportive team environment
  • Practical application of university knowledge
  • Potential pathways to future graduate and career opportunities within GBI and Johnson Controls

About the Role

Due to continued business growth, we are seeking a motivated Engineering Intern to join our Brunswick-based team.

Working closely with Engineers, Project Managers, and Service Teams, you will support a variety of engineering and project-related activities while developing your technical capabilities and professional skills in a dynamic industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist engineers with technical research, data collection, and basic engineering calculations.
  • Support the preparation of engineering reports, documentation, and project records.
  • Assist with updating drawings and documentation using AutoCAD and other software tools.
  • Participate in site visits and inspections to gain exposure to industrial refrigeration systems and equipment.
  • Collect, organise, and analyse information for engineering studies, proposals, and reports.
  • Assist with project administration, including document control and progress tracking.
  • Support procurement and material ordering activities.
  • Attend project meetings and assist with recording actions and meeting minutes.
  • Assist with safety documentation, risk assessments, and compliance requirements.
  • Observe and support testing and commissioning activities under supervision.
  • Provide general support across Engineering, Projects, and Service teams.
  • Contribute ideas and feedback to support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop an understanding of engineering standards, company procedures, and industry best practices.

About You

We're looking for an enthusiastic and motivated engineering student who is eager to learn, enjoys problem-solving, and is passionate about gaining practical industry experience in a specialised engineering environment.

Essential Requirements

  • Currently studying a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Process, Chemical, Mechatronic, or a related Engineering discipline.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A solid understanding of fundamental engineering principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.
  • A willingness to learn and contribute as part of a team.
  • Current Australian driver's licence (or ability to obtain one).
  • Full Australian working rights.

Desirable

  • Exposure to AutoCAD or similar drafting software.
  • Interest in refrigeration, manufacturing, construction, or industrial processes.
  • Previous experience in a technical, trade, engineering, or industrial environment.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.

Join Gordon Brothers Industries and gain hands-on experience with Australia's leading industrial refrigeration company while building the skills, knowledge, and industry exposure needed to launch a successful engineering career.
