About Keolis
Keolis is a global public transport operator, combining international expertise with local knowledge to deliver safe, reliable and sustainable transport services.
In Adelaide, our Infrastructure teams deliver maintenance, renewals and project works across the metropolitan rail network, in a live rail environment. This work helps keep one of the state’s most important transport networks safe, reliable and available for passenger services.
Guided by our Zero Harm philosophy, we work together to create an environment where our people, passengers and communities are safe, supported and set up to succeed.
About the role
We’re looking for a Safety Advisor to partner with our Infrastructure Maintenance, Renewals and Projects teams, providing operational health and safety advice across infrastructure maintenance, renewals and project works.
You’ll spend your time where it matters most, on site with the teams who plan and deliver the works. Whether you’re supporting a major shutdown, reviewing a contractor Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS), verifying critical controls during site inspections, working with a supervisor to plan a high-risk activity, or providing day-to-day advice to frontline leaders and delivery teams, you’ll play an important role in helping our teams identify hazards, manage risk and deliver work safely.
Working across infrastructure maintenance, renewals and projects, you’ll contribute to stronger work planning, effective risk management and continuous improvement across a live operational rail environment.
What you’ll do
- Build trusted relationships with frontline leaders, supervisors, work crews and contractors to support the safe delivery of maintenance, renewals and project works.
- Provide advice on risk assessments, Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), permits, critical risk controls and safe work planning.
- Maintain a strong field presence through regular attendance at pre-starts, toolbox talks, worksite inspections, shutdowns, possessions and night works.
- Conduct workplace inspections, audits and assurance activities to verify critical controls, legislative requirements and organisational standards.
- Conduct incident investigations, identify opportunities for improvement, and support the implementation of corrective actions and lessons learned.
- Support and advise frontline teams to strengthen safety capability, improve work planning and embed safe work practices.
- Monitor contractor safety performance and work with project and operational teams to achieve positive safety outcomes.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of our Safety Management System, assurance activities and operational safety performance.
About you
- You enjoy being where the work happens and building trusted relationships with frontline teams in a high-risk operational environment.
- You’re confident engaging with people at every level, comfortable asking questions and challenging unsafe work respectfully, and able to balance legislative compliance with practical, risk-based solutions.
- You enjoy working collaboratively, solving problems and helping teams plan and deliver work safely. You demonstrate initiative in the field, maintain a curious and solutions-focused mindset, and take pride in helping others succeed.
You’ll also bring
- Certificate IV, Diploma or Degree in Work Health and Safety, Risk Management or a related discipline.
- Experience in rail, construction, infrastructure, transport, utilities, mining or another high-risk operational environment.
- Sound understanding of Australian Work Health and Safety legislation and contemporary safety management systems.
- Experience conducting workplace inspections, audits, incident investigations and risk assessments.
- Experience working with Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), permit to work systems and contractor management.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build relationships and positively influence frontline teams.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic operational environment.
- Current driver’s licence.
- Rail Industry Worker (RIW) Card, or willingness to obtain one.
