To help realise our vision, a unique opportunity has arisen for motivated and results orientated individuals to join Kmart Group in the role of Aboriginal Affairs Manager within the Corporate Affairs and Sustainability function. As Aboriginal Affairs Manager, you will work closely with Indigenous communities, organisations, businesses and our teams as we continue to build awareness and understanding of culture, and ensure that our commitments to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples stay strong.
We Flex Where, Flex When and Flex Well at the Kmart Group so we don’t mind which location you work from, however, the successful candidate will need to travel to National Offices (Mulgrave or Williams Landing VIC) as required.
What will I do?
- Develop and implement an Aboriginal Affairs strategy that will include a supplier diversity plan
- Ensure that the strategy is aligned and supports the Diversity and Inclusion People plan as well as specific objectives that sit in Corporate Affairs & Sustainability
- Liaise and work closely with the Diversity & Inclusion team, including the Indigenous Employment Advisors in each state
- Advise the development of specific product lines identified by merchandise and design teams including identification and liaison with artists in creating the story for Go-to Market (end-to-end).
- Delivery of key WES RAP commitments across all brands in the Kmart Group
- Plan and deliver events and communications for key cultural celebration dates
- Advise and help manage customer contacts when culturally sensitive situations arise
- Maintain and grow on connecting business with community in meaningful and long term ways
- Manage the reporting and tracking of donations, and continuously add information into RAP Impact Reports and Kmart Group/WES sustainability report and audits.

What do I need?
We'd expect you to be a strong communicator with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders within a fast environment. Experience in developing and implementing plans will be a must for getting the most out of your role. Running events that drive education and understanding of diversity backed by the ability to build rapport, motivate and positively influences others while presenting about cultural topics will be a key to your success. Most importantly, you'll hold a strong interest in social issues including advocacy in engaging people in learning more about First Nations People and their community.
Additionally, you will possess:
- Experience, or potential, to effectively deliver large scale projects from beginning to end
- Ability to think 'national' both from a brand point of view and considering many different communities.
- A team player that takes pride in their work and wants to drive a positive impact within large businesses
- Strong planning, organizing and writing skills.
- Tertiary qualification in Public Relations, Corporate Affairs, Community Investment/Projects, Sustainability, Communications or relevant professional experience in a similar industry.
- Experience in a corporate environment is advantageous but not essential
- Full and current Australian driver's license
What does Kmart Group do?
The Kmart Group is comprised of Kmart and Target, Catch and the Kmart Group Asia sourcing business. It was formed as the Department Stores Division in February 2016 and rebranded to the Kmart Group in November 2018.
