Job Summary
The Networks Automation Architect in the IP Network Engineering team is responsible for the strategy, design and co-development of key automation solutions for IP transport engineering functions. The role is responsible in conceptualizing the IP transport network automation blue-print, deriving the roadmap and the delivery of the automation outcomes for integration into the network Architecture across the planning, design, deployment, provisioning and operational engineering domains.
This role requires in-depth knowledge of a niche hybrid skill area of Network-Devops, innovative thinking, agile mode of operation and Carrier Grade Multi-Service IP Transport Network Architectural skills. The Networks-DevOps Architect will play a lead role in Optus’ transition to the future IP Network, by setting the automation foundation and delivering to the overall IPNE automation strategy for integration into a production network environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Accountable for the IPNE IP transport network digitalization & transformation automation strategy based on business requirements, eco system maturity and industry developments
- Co-lead architect in the design and development of devops and network solutions for planning, design, deployment, provisioning and operational engineering functions (end to end).
- Responsible for delivering the networking devops capability to interface to the SDN (Software Defined Network) controller and service orchestrator to unlock full network agility
- Responsible for the solution architecture, design and co-development of the end to end fully automated integrated transport network planning solution.
- Responsible for a modular and scalable solution architecture that is cloud, container and microservices based while also interfacing to our current Digital eco system.
- Responsible for architecture, design and co-development solutions towards a programmable network with the co-existence of virtualized network functions and SDN controller.
- Responsible for solutions that meet the regulatory and compliance standards.
- Lead the technological evolution bringing in industry and competitive knowledge from the market to steer our roadmap to suit the dynamic and volatile eco system
- Improve infrastructure performance and operational efficiency.
- Conduct Version Control, system conformance, release and deployment
- Internal & external stakeholder management Eg: other Network Engineering Groups, Optus Customer Care, Optus IT, Content and Portals, International Carriers, 3rd party vendors and suppliers
Experience and Qualifications
- Tertiary qualifications or similar in relevant discipline.
- Track record of successfully designing, developing and deploying software in test and production environments.
- In-depth knowledge and ability to code in multiple languages such as Python, Javascript, Java, Go,. Net
- Experience with Architecture of Carrier Grade Multi-Service Transport networks with a detailed understanding of technologies such as IP, TCP/UDP, Segment Routing, BGP, OSPF, ISIS, MPLS and Traffic Engineering
- Highly proficient devops experience and use of APIs and SDKs.
- In-depth experience and knowledge in network specialized open-source software provisioning, configuration management, and application deployment tool such as Ansible (also Chef, Puppet etc)
- In-depth expertise in networking technologies such as Cisco/Juniper/Nokia bringing the unique mix of Networks-Devops (NetDevops) hybrid skills
- Strong understanding of fundamental changes to the software and technology business driven by DevOps and the move to cloud computing and APIs, and micro-services is critical.
- Strong understanding of the future of networks with the impact of NFV (Network Function Virtualization), SDN (Software Defined Network), Network As A Service (NAAS), Containers As A Service (CAAS)
