Job Title: Technical Specialist- Satellite Operations
Location: Canberra
Position Summary
The Technical Specialist will provide technical expertise and pro-active management of the Australian Defence Satellite Communications Capability (ADSCC), Off-Shore Anchor Stations (OSA), Interim Anchor Stations (IAS) and other Wide Band Ground Terminals via Surveillance, Analysis, Routine Maintenance and Service Restoration tasks whilst providing in depth technical support, training and shift supervision as part of the DPOCC management team. The Technical Specialist will also be required to perform the function of Shift Leader as indicated in the shift roster, when requested. Further to this the Technical Specialist is responsible for reporting and trending problems to identify any network issues that arise. Assist the Group Leader and ADSCC manager in all areas of their duties while pro-actively promoting all the Optus Values in day to day activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Solve the more complex ADFSOC and network problems in a real-time environment within SLA
- Recommend, develop and implement standards and procedures to improve the performance of ADFSOC services.
- Effective communication and co-ordination with other groups to ensure timely restoration of failure conditions in the ADFSOC Network.
- Maintain an excellent working relationship with internal and external customers to ensure that their service needs and expectations are known, met and exceeded
- Resolution of complex technical issues and situations which may be rectified through a number of different options/actions i.e. the process for problem restoration will typically be less prescriptive and require judgment and selection of "best approach"
- Lead and facilitate Technical Task Forces designed to improve the performance of ADFSOC operations
- Represent Optus Management in new Defence product workshops to ensure desired performance levels can be achieved. Identification and resolution of conflicting Defence business priorities and managing any assigned projects to an agreed timeline.
Experience and Qualifications
- Appropriate Certificate, Diploma or Degree in electronic engineering or telecommunications.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in the operation, maintenance & technical analysis of ADFSOC networks and associated equipment or a civilian equivalent.
- Crisis Management and Business Recovery skills specific to the ADFSOC Networks
- Ability to supervise staff including organising, prioritising and scheduling work assignments
- Ability to plan, organise and manage own work
- Ability to plan, organise and co-ordinate the work of others
- High level of computer skills
- Proven ability to deliver complex failure management and resolution
- High level of Unix, network and IT failure analysis skills
- Proven interpersonal skills in a relevant technical environment
- Ability to communicate effectively with others
