About us
As a department our purpose is to help the community to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from the impact of fire and emergency events.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland. The department encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service, disaster management services, the Rural Fire Service (RFS) and the State Emergency Service, and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.
QFES is one department with many services, many capabilities and many partners.
Purpose of the role
Volunteer and Frontline Support Services support volunteers through the provision of business functionality for the RFS. This includes volunteer recruitment and marketing; finance and grants; information management; governance and compliance; volunteer support services; and special projects.
Reporting to the Manager, you will be a key member of the team contributing to the analysis, interpretation and implementation of strategic business improvement initiatives and activities to support volunteers and staff.
You will provide support with the planning and implementation of projects and products and assist with project management functions such as risks; issues; decisions; benefits management and scheduling, with a particular focus on business process development and improvement, and stakeholder engagement.

- Experience with provision of administrative support in a project environment.
- Knowledge of, or experience working with volunteers and/or within a volunteer organisation.
Special requirements
- Capacity to work at night and/or weekends to suite a volunteer environement.
Your key accountabilities
Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting key frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:
- Support various projects and be involved in the planning, development, implementation, review and evaluation of projects and programs.
- Prepare project plans and executive briefings of a complex nature for dissemination to senior management.
- Coordinate input from subject matter experts and stakeholders, including for the development of relevant material.
- Identify information needs in relation to the implementation of the program and business improvement initiatives.
- Support the executive management through the use of relevant applications and systems.
- Provide secretariat support to committees and working groups by preparing agendas, recording and circulation of minutes and follow up on actions and decisions.
- Liaise, consult and negotiate with internal and external stakeholders and deal with sensitive and/or classified information in an appropriate manner.
- Represent QFES and senior management at selected forums and committees.
