About us
As a department our purpose is to help the community to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from the impact of fire and emergency events.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland. The department encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service, disaster management services, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.
QFES is one department with many services, many capabilities and many partners.
Purpose of role
The Information Management team is responsible for ensuring that QFES information and data resources are managed as a strategic asset; are trusted and accurate; support service delivery; are managed securely; meet compliance requirements; support decision marking; provide predictive insights; and help measure our performance as a department, whilst ensuring that our workforce is empowered to deliver efficient, innovative and sustainable fire and emergency services to our community.
Reporting to the Executive Manager, you will be a key member of the team responsible for managing and contributing to the development and delivery of information management initiatives including the development of strategies policies and standards. Your role is expected to drive, promote and commit to best business continuity and risk practices to meet departmental strategic objectives.

Your key accountabilities
Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:
- Provide leadership, development and expert advice on data and information architecture and management best practices for implementation within the department.
- Contribute to and manage activities that enhance information management maturity and solutions including measures and exception based reporting.
- Provide strategic advice on contemporary information management and technology issues and their potential to impact the department's goals.
- Link complex data management requirements together and support the creation of data sharing arrangements, including the development and maintenance of data catalogues and data dictionaries to enhance community outcomes.
- Assist in the identification, addressing and scheduling of issues, risks and solutions that may impact the successful implementation of the QFES information management framework.
- Recommend appropriate standards and protocols needed to establish industry standard and best practice information management architecture.
- Provide leadership, coaching, mentoring and skills transfers to staff and volunteers relating to information management initiatives.
