About the role
Rio Tinto Metallurgical Evaluation delivers value to Rio Tinto Iron Ore by providing information on current and future resources and maintaining a library of samples. The Metallurgical Evaluation Team achieves this through highly capable people applying uniform, data driven processes and tools, continuously improving its approach in pursuit of efficient and effective service delivery. We collaborate with business unit customers to provide sample handling fidelity and reliability and actively promote Rio Tinto Group goals on safety and sustainable development. The engagement with suppliers is based on the principles of value, integrity and mutual respect.
We are seeking Metallurgical Operators to join our Dampier Port Operations Metallurgical Evaluation Team (East Intercourse Island), to continue carrying out safe and effective test work. Reporting to the Supervisor Metallurgical Evaluation, you will be required to conduct the following activities:
- Provide customers with timely and accurate test work results
- Provide testing, analysis and feedback according to established protocols
- Operate laboratory and/or bulk handling plant and equipment within individual competency
- Understand the requirements for working within a laboratory and/or bulk handing environment
- Maintain familiarity with procedures for laboratory and bulk handling facility
- Train other team members in the operation of laboratory / bulk handling as required
- Share their knowledge and expertise in a manner that provides effective operation and utilisation of plant and equipment
- Develop an in-depth knowledge of all processes and following SOP’s
- Follow strict workplace HSE rules in regard to your safety and the safety of others
About you
To be considered for this role, you will have:
- A current and valid HR or C Class manual Driver’s License
- A current and valid High Risk Work License – forklift (LF)
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Competency with the use of MS office products and Windows file management systems
- Ability to work individually or as part of a team with minimal supervision
Where you will be working
Our port facilities consist of three shipping terminals located on the Pilbara coast at Dampier and Cape Lambert, which form an essential part of our logistics process. Each terminal has facilities for train unloading, iron ore stockpiling, product blending and ship loading. Karratha is located just off the North West Coastal Highway, 1535 kilometres north of Perth and 240 kilometres south of Port Hedland. Karratha is a city in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, adjoining the port of Dampier. With a bustling city center, Karratha’s recent reinvention will surprise you with it's hip restaurants and modern facilities, but best of all Karratha's location means it is surrounded by iconic natural attractions.
