About the role:
We are looking for a Principal Advisor - Strategy to bring a unique combination of business and technology expertise; and to act as a translator, integrator and facilitator. Technology Strategy is no longer just limited to how technology supports the business strategy, but how technology can create new opportunities and new value.
This role will work closely with the senior IS&T leaders and our Communications business partner to develop Rio Tinto Board, ExCo submissions and updates. The successful candidate will also work closely with the IS&T SLT and our HR business partners to fine tune the IS&T operating model and create and promote the end-to-end IS&T strategy and roadmaps.
This role requires considerable collaboration and will suit an individual who demonstrates strong skills in consulting, stakeholder management and facilitating. Given the significant digital transformation journey Rio Tinto is on, it is important the individual in this role is up-to-date with current and emerging technology trends, and has an eye for potential solutions and innovative options that will help the business evolve.
Reporting to the Chief Advisor, Office of the CIO, and working within our global Information Systems & Technology (IS&T) team, you will:
- Be committed to the safety of yourself and your team and the ability to lead by example.
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert for the Technology Business Strategy discipline, whilst supporting the development of the overall function strategy for IS&T.
- Build roadmaps to present to the Senior Leadership Team and other key stakeholders..
- Translate business goals to action plans, and deliver business change initiatives
- Collaborate and work with business leaders and peers in managing business strategy implementation within the relevant discipline.
- Lead, mentor and develop staff using a supportive / collaborative approach.
- Consult on the establishment of strategic programme initiatives and develop action and resource plans to achieve desired outcomes.
What you’ll bring:
- A number of years’ experience in a similar IT Strategic Advisor role or for an external strategic consulting business working within a large scale enterprise environment.
- Expert facilitation and consultative skills that allow you to present options and strategies to a variety of stakeholders from Senior Leadership Teams to Senior Executives and various other levels of an organisation.
- The ability to be a key contributor to a small team of Strategic Advisors using a collaborative and inclusive approach.
- Strong digital transformation, change management, stakeholder management and communication skills including the ability to influence stakeholders of all levels.
- Experience in Agile strategy, transformation and operating models.
- Broad, diverse experience and knowledge of major technologies (legacy to emerging).
- Demonstrated experience successfully identifying and delivering IT Strategies that align to the overarching business outcomes, offering innovative thinking, adaptability to a changing global environment and efficiencies that will drive service excellence.
- The ability to guide a global business on ways to eliminate digital friction that will create greater efficiencies across the organisation.
- Appropriate industry qualifications in Information Systems or other relevant qualifications and experience.
