Water quality

Riverina Water County Council provides safe, high-quality drinking water to over 77,000 people across a 15,000 km² service area in southern NSW. We support households, businesses and communities in Wagga Wagga, Lockhart Shire, and parts of Greater Hume and Federation councils, delivering essential water services to both rural townships and urban centres.

We manage more than 35,000 service connections, operate a network of treatment plants, reservoirs and pipelines, and play a critical role in supporting public health, economic development, and regional resilience. Our operations are grounded in a strong focus on asset management, water quality, digital transformation, and community engagement.

Riverina Water is a regional local government entity, governed by elected councillors and working closely with member councils and utility partners to meet the evolving needs of our growing region.

Culture at Riverina Water

quote image
Rebeccah didn’t expect her Bachelor of Medical Science to lead her into the water industry – but here she is, thriving in a role that lets her blend hands-on fieldwork with lab analysis and problem solving. “I love my job – it provides the perfect balance of being out in the field and in the lab. It’s pretty hard to beat.” From navigating male-dominated lecture halls in uni and previous workplaces, to becoming one of two women in our Water Quality Team, and then more recently progressing into a role as a Water Treatment Operator, Rebeccah has never shied away. Her advice for budding female scientists is straightforward: “Science is for everyone. There are so many career opportunities that you won’t know about until you're in the field. Encourage girls and women to take up space and not shy away from studying subjects that are typically male-dominated.” At Riverina Water, she’s found both professional respect and personal support. “Don’t be afraid to have boundaries,” she reflects. “The men I’ve worked with have been respectful, look out for me and encourage me. Even as I became a mum of two, I feel so supported and haven’t been treated any differently.”
