Don’t come for an easy career. Stay for a rewarding one.
At Santos, we do work that matters and always have. When you join us, you will too.

As a global energy company, we’re committed to providing reliable and affordable energy to help create a better world for everyone.

To make it happen, we work as One Team and ask ourselves, “How can we?” (Even when others say, “We can’t.”)
We’re proud of our history as pioneers, problem-solvers, and pragmatists. And as we strive to achieve our Vision2040, we’ve got our sights set on a culture that is focused and disciplined to drive value, and entrepreneurial and energised to leave a positive legacy.

As part of the Santos team, you’ll tackle one of the most complex problems of our time. It’s no easy task, but nothing rewarding ever is.
What you’ll do:
Based in our Brisbane office, you’ll play a key role within the Upstream Production Engineering team in optimising the safety, performance and capacity of Santos’ surface assets, working across the business to maximise production, resolve constraints and deliver improvements in safety, reliability, cost and emissions.

In this role, you’ll champion a “produce every molecule” mindset, using your technical expertise to identify and resolve production constraints, optimise surface facilities and gathering systems, and deliver improvements in production, reliability, cost and emissions. Working across a large and geographically challenging portfolio of conventional oil and gas assets, you’ll gain exposure to a diverse range of facilities and infrastructure, including gas, oil and water assets, pipelines, and a variety of compression systems and configurations.

Your strong analytical, troubleshooting and stakeholder engagement skills will be key to leading Return to Plan (RTP) and production optimisation activities, turning opportunities into delivered outcomes and solving complex operational challenges alongside Operations, Maintenance and other business stakeholders. As a senior engineer, you’ll also champion the application of risk management frameworks (IRR) and the Santos Management System (SMS), while providing technical guidance and mentoring to build capability across the team.

Key accountabilities include:
  • Monitoring facility performance to identify actual and potential production shortfalls and recommend any corrective actions or investigation activities
  • A focus on minimising asset risk through risk-based work selection, risk management processes and effective management of change in alignment with Santos’ SMS
  • Being the champion of a "produce every molecule" mindset by identifying and delivering opportunities to maximise production and facility performance
  • Identification and implementation of initiatives to reduce unit operating costs and improve asset value
  • Driving emissions reduction initiatives to achieve asset emissions targets
  • Collaboration with Operations, Maintenance and support functions to optimise asset performance and deliver business objectives
  • Leading subject matter guidance, coaching and mentoring to junior production engineers, fostering capability development in alignment with Santos Values and the Santos Management System (SMS)

What you’ll bring:
You’re recognised as a technically credible production engineering leader, with strong analytical, troubleshooting and stakeholder engagement skills. You can translate production forecasts and asset performance data into actionable insights, looking ahead to identify emerging facility, gathering system and infrastructure constraints and driving solutions before they impact production. You’ll influence outcomes across multidisciplinary teams, mentor junior engineers and drive continuous improvement, bringing experience across surface facilities, production planning and forecasting, and emissions reduction initiatives.

You will hold an engineering degree in mechanical, chemical, process or electrical engineering, with Chartered Engineer and/or RPEQ certification.

You will also be able to demonstrate the following:
  • Industry experience in Production Engineering, Facilities Engineering, Operations Engineering within the Oil & Gas industry
  • Experience with Integrated Risk Registers \(IRR), Management of Change (MOC) and Risk-Based Work Selection (RBWS)
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving capability
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and during operational upsets to minimise risk and production impacts
  • Self-motivated, adaptable and able to lead through influence
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and working as one team, with the accountability, integrity and drive to deliver exceptional results and build a better future

What you’ll get:
Here, you’ll be amongst high-calibre people and get to work on industry-leading projects. We don’t shy away from solving tough problems at pace. We like it that way. You can expect to be challenged and supported; to learn and grow.

At Santos, we’re committed to creating a workplace where everyone can thrive. This means a place that is safe; where you are valued and respected, and your contribution is recognised and appreciated. Join us, and you’ll play a role in this too.

Each of our sites offer access to specific amenities that aim to create the best possible benefits to your health, wellbeing and performance. In Brisbane – this includes Onsite Gym facilities, Onsite GP services and many more employee benefits.

What you’re part of:
Everywhere you turn you will be a part of a team who are coming together to contribute to our single uniting purpose - to provide reliable and affordable energy to help create a better world for everyone

And because it’s not only what you do, but how you do it, you will also contribute to improving the living standards of the communities where we operate, building enduring and respectful relationships that serve a generation. It’s about each of us, and all of us – together.

How to Apply:
Applications must be submitted via the online recruitment system before COB 12th November 2026.

A requirement of this role is that you will need to have in place the legal work rights for Australia to apply.
