Don’t come for an easy career. Stay for a rewarding one.
At Santos, we do work that matters and always have. When you join us, so will you.
As a global energy company, we’re committed to providing reliable and affordable energy to help create a better world for everyone.
To make it happen, we work as One Team and ask ourselves, “How can we?” (Even when others say, “We can’t.”)
We’re proud of our history as pioneers, problem-solvers, and pragmatists. And as we strive to achieve our Vision2040, we’ve got our sights set on a culture that is focused and disciplined to drive value, and entrepreneurial and energised to leave a positive legacy.
The difference isn’t just thinking big – it’s delivering on it too.
As part of the team, you’ll tackle one of the most complex problems of our time. It’s no easy task, but nothing rewarding ever is.
What you’ll do:
Based in our Brisbane office, as part of a team delivering tactical surface production engineering support across Santos' multi-asset portfolio driving near-term production optimisation, gathering network debottlenecking, compression optimisation, and production surveillance across Offshore, Coal Seam Gas (CSG), Papua New Guinea (PNG), and Cooper Basin assets.
This role will see you lead complex, cross-asset production performance investigations, deliver gathering debottlenecking and compression optimisation programs, develop portfolio-level surveillance frameworks, and manage capital projects through the MOC process — with rare opportunities to build technical breadth across four distinct production systems and progress toward Chartered Professional Engineer / RPEQ registration.
You will pioneer and drive new production efficiencies, constraint resolution, and optimisation outcomes in a complex, multi-asset environment where you'll coordinate across operations, reservoir, facilities, and planning teams from a centralised Brisbane-based function supporting geographically dispersed assets.
Your advanced production surveillance, data analysis, and stakeholder engagement skills formed across production engineering roles spanning conventional, CSG, and offshore oil and gas operations will see you excel in identifying and resolving surface system constraints across diverse asset types, overcome the challenge of balancing production maximisation with emissions reduction targets across a multi-asset portfolio, and bring rigorous technical assurance and economic analysis to lead to increased production rates, reduced gathering network pressures, optimised compression performance, and strengthened cross-asset production strategy.
Key accountabilities include:
- Taking carriage of projects through MOC process
- Delivery of a series of gathering debottlenecking programs to reduce network pressure and increase production rates
- Investigating and developing compression optimisation projects to enhance production rates in strategic networks
- Maximisation of production for the asset through surveillance of satellite/flowline performance and optimisation, recommending remediation plans
- Driving the ‘gas scavenger mindset’ within the team – Produce every molecule
- Working collaboratively with Development, Reservoir, Operations and support functions to ensure projects are scoped and executed as per plan, and backout mitigation maximised
- A demonstrate of committed leadership qualities that aligned our Santos Values
What you’ll bring:
You're recognised as a trusted, technically credible production engineering leader with a "produce every molecule" commercial mindset, skilled at leading debottlenecking programs, conducting complex multi-asset investigations, and communicating technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences, experienced in tactical surface production engineering with a minimum of five years in oil and gas — ideally holding a Bachelor of Engineering (Petroleum, Chemical, Mechanical, or equivalent) with proficiency in integrated production modelling tools.
You will also be able to demonstrate the following:
- Proven experience in production engineering in the oil and gas industry
- Experience in tactical surface production engineering, including production optimisation
- Ideally, you will be degree qualified or demonstrate significant training and experience within directly relevant role(s), within large corporate environments
- Leading tactical surface engineering programs across multiple asset types and contributing to portfolio-level production strategy
- Experience with integrated production modelling software (e.g. Gap, TNav).
- Knowledge in ValNav, SAP and Nodal Analysis.
- Exposure to Offshore, Conventional or CSG production systems.
- Experience working in a multi-asset, centralised technical support function.
What you’ll get:
Here, you’ll be amongst high-calibre people and get to work on industry-leading projects. We don’t shy away from solving tough problems at pace. We like it that way. You can expect to be challenged and supported; to learn and grow.
At Santos, we’re committed to creating a workplace where everyone can thrive. This means a place that is safe; where you are valued and respected, and your contribution is recognised and appreciated. Join us, and you’ll play a role in this too.
Each of our sites offer access to specific amenities that aim to create the best possible benefits to your health, wellbeing and performance. In Brisbane this includes this includes Onsite Gym facilities, Onsite GP services and many more employee benefits.
What you’re part of:
Everywhere you turn you will be a part of a team who are coming together to contribute to our single uniting purpose - to provide reliable and affordable energy to help create a better world for everyone
And because it’s not only what you do, but how you do it, you will also contribute to improving the living standards of the communities where we operate, building enduring and respectful relationships that serve a generation. It’s about each of us, and all of us – together.
How to Apply:
Applications must be submitted via the online recruitment system before COB 15th November.
