Culture at Surf Life Saving Queensland

quote image
At Surf Life Saving Queensland, we believe that creating an equitable workplace goes beyond policies—it requires a culture that champions confidence and courage. Far too often, women hold back not because of capability, but because of self-doubt. My message is simple: back yourself. We are backing you. We are committed to ensuring that every woman in our organisation feels supported to step up, speak out, and lead with purpose. Whether it’s through visible role models, leadership development, or simply a workplace that believes in you—we’re building the foundations to ensure belief isn’t a barrier. To the women of SLSQ: you belong in every room, at every table, and in every decision. And we will continue to create the space for you to thrive.

Make a difference where work meets purpose.

At Surf Life Saving Queensland (SLSQ), we're united by a simple mission: helping save lives, create great Australians, and build better communities. For more than a century, we've been dedicated to keeping Queensland's beaches safe while supporting the volunteers, members, and communities that make this mission possible.

From frontline lifesaving services and emergency response operations to education, training, sport, and community programs, our people work together to deliver a real and lasting impact across Queensland.

More than a job – a chance to contribute to something bigger.

Working at SLSQ means being part of an organisation with a powerful purpose and a proud legacy. Whether you're supporting our volunteer members, delivering essential community services, driving innovation behind the scenes, or helping shape the future of the organisation, every role contributes to making Queensland safer.

Our people are at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to fostering a supportive, inclusive, and flexible workplace where everyone can thrive. We actively encourage the advancement of women across all areas of our organisation and are dedicated to creating opportunities for leadership, professional development, and career growth. We recognise that diverse perspectives strengthen our teams and enable us to better serve the communities we support.

Our Values

Diversity Equity and Inclusion

SLSQ are committed to fostering a supportive, inclusive and flexible workplace where everyone can thrive. The SLSQ Diversity Equity and Inclusion Strategy was established in 2024, with a focus on ensuring equitable systems and inclusive practices in our organisation.   Our initiatives intersect with every area of the business. Key achievements include establishment of SLSQ’s Inclusion Employee Resource Group; Women 'Leaders Unleashed' Program; provision of reasonable adjustments, inclusive policies, guidelines and recruitment practices, and receiving Pride in Sport's Gold Tier Organisation endorsement.

SLSQ continues to focus on building an inclusive workplace through strong partnerships where we can leverage expertise, best practice and lived experience. We are proud to partner with organisations such as Work180, Pride in Sport, Lifesavers with Pride, Multicultural Australia and Get Skilled Access.

We actively encourage the advancement of women across all areas of our organisation and are dedicated to creating opportunities for leadership, professional development and career growth. We recognise that diverse perspectives strengthen our teams and enable us to better serve the communities we support.

Over 36,000 volunteers help keep Queensland beaches safe, supported by more than 462,000 affiliated supporters club members. SLSQ also employs dedicated professionals across Queensland, with offices in Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Bundaberg, Townsville and Cairns. Guided by innovation, service and water safety, SLSQ’s vision is clear: Zero preventable deaths in Queensland public waters.
