An exciting opportunity has become available for a Water Quality Analyst in Aquatic Ecology to join the Customer Experience team within Sydney Water, on a 12-month term contract.
Reporting to the Biology Laboratory Manager, you will carry out field collection and laboratory identification of freshwater macroinvertebrates and laboratory identification of marine macroinvertebrates for internal Sydney Water customers, as well as external customers.
Responsibilities:
Daily duties include laboratory analysis of samples, data entry, quality control, checks and calibrations.
- Conduct biological analysis of water and wastewater products in accordance with procedures
- Work cooperatively with team members to ensure customer requirements are met and operations are efficient
- Demonstrate understanding of the quality system and quality requirements relevant to the position
- Demonstrate ability and willingness to learn new tasks, methods, instruments and equipment, as appropriate
- Complete tasks on time, to expected quality and at the expected cost
- Provide guidance in areas of quality and safety and provide relevant training
- Identify and report potential opportunities to optimise assets, equipment, systems and processes
- Undertake problem solving and troubleshooting within the Laboratory and assist team members with problem resolution
- Carry out internal audits or participate in them as required and in accordance with training provided
- Demonstrate knowledge of and compliance with NATA accreditation requirements relevant to the role
- Demonstrate willingness to cross train and be amenable to rotation through all areas of Laboratory Services, as appropriate
- Work safely, undertake risk assessments and report hazards and incidents
Experience and Qualifications:
- A relevant tertiary qualification (Degree and/or Certificate in Biology) or demonstrated several years’ experience within a related science discipline in Freshwater or Marine.
- Ability to work as part of a team or with minimum guidelines to achieve business goals
- Experience in conducting routine laboratory identification of freshwater and marine macroinvertebrates.
- You will also carry out field collection
- Previous experience in using LIMS
- Demonstrated knowledge of quality assurance systems including NATA accreditation and ISO 9000 quality requirements
- Demonstrated communication skills including ability to liaise effectively and write clear and concise reports using software packages such as Word, Excel and LIMS
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively within a team, and independently.
- Possess physical fitness to carry out microscopic analysis
- Demonstrated commitment to Health & Safety and the principles of Equity and Diversity.
